It tells the story of Captain Nemo and his submarine Nautilus, as seen from the perspective of Professor Pierre Aronnax after he, his servant Conseil, and Canadian whaler Ned Land wash up on their ship. On the Nautilus, the three embark on a journey which has them going all around the world, under the sea.

User’s Reviews

Jules Verne (1828-1905) was a French author best known for his tales of adventure, including Twenty Thousand Leagues under the Sea, Journey to the Center of the Earth, and Around the World in Eighty Days. A true visionary, Verne foresaw the skyscraper, the submarine, and the airplane, among many other inventions, and is now regarded as one of the fathers of science fiction.

Reviews from Amazon users, collected at the time the book is getting published on UniedVRG. It can be related to shiping or paper quality instead of the book content:

⭐ I’m sure when this book was released in the late 1800s it was considered a masterpiece as it provided intricate details on sea life that not many people had been exposed to. However, in reading it now, it is so painstakingly dull. There isn’t much of a story line as the majority of the book about sea creatures. If I was a marine biologist, I think I’d still be bored. If you’re into classic novels like Moby Dick, then I think you’ll find this enjoyable. Otherwise, it’s not really worth the time. Sorry Jules.

⭐ I got this book to donate to a lending library and although I like many of Verne’s works, I chose this as the book of his to donate because it is the first of his works that I read. What I really liked about this version is that it is complete and unabridged. An important factor when choosing a new edition of a classic. The font could be larger, but that might not matter to the people who will actually read the book.

⭐ The print in the book was too small to read.

⭐ Of course Jules Verne’s famous proto-sci-fi novel was the source and inspiration for many later writers, including himself, H.G. Wells, and the 20th and 21st century proponents of the genre. Previously, then novel was available only in condensed or abridged versions, originally done to make the work fit as “juvenile literature.” This is a completely unabridged version, but there’s a problem: much of Verne’s book consists of endless recitations of the scientific names and classifications of what his protagonist, M. Arronax, sees through the viewing ports of the Nautilus. And when I say “endless” I mean it, and the translation doesn’t try to give more familiar names to the conches, shellfish, bony fish and marine mammals, or the corals, kelp species and sea weeds that are exhaustively catalogued. There is actually very little “action” in the complete edition, much to my dismay. Oh well … it’s still a fascinating read ….

⭐ Book fell apart after beginning to read it. By the time I Got to chapter 5, chapters 3 and 4 fell out because of the Poor glue binding.Nothing wrong with the story, just upset with the poor quality. This is for the “mass market paperback”

⭐ This is an amazing book & I understand they need to keep the price down and print on fewer pages . This is fine for kids but if you are an adult. Small font strains your eyes

⭐ I used this book for an art project and it worked perfectly it was a great size and the glue was good.

⭐ interesting

⭐ A classic. What can you say? Verne was many years ahead of his time. I read this book when I was a kid and loved it; now I’m passing it on to my grandkids.

⭐ I don’t like science fiction, but I LOVE this book! A great read 🙂
