⭐The Historical Development of Quantum Mechanics covers 100 years (from 1900 to 1999) of physics, starting from Planck’s theoretical study of the black body radiation up to the GRW model (1986) of wavefunction collapse and further developments. In the early 1950s Jagdish Mehra, an Indian-born American physicist, made a trip to Europe where he met the pioneers of quantum mechanics (Heisenberg, Pauli, and others) having in mind the idea of writing a definitive historical account of quantum theory. He interviewed many of the pioneers and collected a vast amount of documents (papers, letters, etc.) which now form the Jagdish Mehra Collection of the University of Huston Library. In the late 1960s Mehra meet Helmut Rechenberg and together they started writing this important historical study. In 1972 Mehra organized the conference The Physicist’s Conception of Nature at ICTP in Trieste where many giants of quantum mechanics (among them Dirac, Heisenberg and Jordan) attended and presented their views and personal recollections. This conference provided additional material and ideas on the philosophical and historical aspects. Every one with a serious interest in the historical development of physics and, in particular, quantum theory should go through this monumental study.
