⭐This second volume is most interesting in the whole series. It is so complex and systemic, heavily annotated by footnotes, written by carefully chosen top scholars. I do not know better source where you can get the whole picture not only of individual sciences in different cultures (Islamic, Byzantine, Jewish, European), but also of the organization of scientifical knowledge and its social context. If you want to penetrate the beginnings of our western sciences, to really understand how it came into existence, then this book is the most suitable thing for you to start off with.

⭐Excellent review of current scholarship, thus a necessary reference. It is therefore unfortunate that the book is so expensive.

⭐Check the Table of Contents. Apparently the editors don’t care about capitalization. Which doesn’t give you confidence in the rest of the book.Another half-passed job by Cambridge University Press.
