⭐This book is very beautifully presented, with colorful pictures and portraits of the prize winners. But the information about their work tends to be shallow and has serious mistakes. For example, Giauque (Chemistry Nobel 1949) is credited with the discovery of deuterium; in fact not he but Harold Urey discovered it, and got the 1949 Chemistry Nobel Prize (see Phys. Today 35(9), 34 (1982); doi: 10.1063/1.2915259).Giulio Natta (Chemistry 1963) is claimed to have received the prize “for the development of high polymers.” The authors probably intended to write “high-quality” and failed to capture the essence of Natta and Ziegler’s work on catalysis, for which in fact they won the prize. Instead, they illustrate that entry with a picture entitled “Nylon”, a polymer developed long before Natta and Ziegler.This book should undergo a thorough revision and I hope very much there will be a corrected and updated 2nd edition.
