The book investigates the ontology and logic of quantum physics. The first part discusses the relationship of theory and observation and different views on the ontological status of scientific theories. It introduces the fundamentals of quantum mechanics and some of its interpretations and their compatibility with various ontological positions. In the second part, implications of quantum mechanics on classical logic, especially on the distributive law and bivalence, as discussed by Garrett Birkhoff & John von Neumann (1936) and Hilary Putnam (1968), and their counterarguments are reconstructed and discussed. It is concluded that classical logic is sufficient for dealing with quantum mechanical propositions.

⭐A brief but excellent introduction to the ontology and logic of quantum physics. The first part of the book is by Jan Dapprich and is divided into three parts: 1) Theory and Observation, 2) Basics of Quantum Physics, and 3) Reflections on Quantum Physics. Part 3 briefly presents all of the current main interpretations of Quantum Physics. The second part of the book is by Annika Schuster and examines 1) Fundamentals of Logic and Quantum Mechanics, 2) Quantum Logic and the Distributive Law, and 3) Meaning and Bivalence in Putnam’s Quantum Logical System. Her discussion of Putnam’s approach is excellent. The book ends with a joint conclusion written by the authors. Both parts of the book are well referenced and there are diagrams to assist the reader with grasping key points. Best of all little prior knowledge of ontology, logic, or quantum mechanics is required of the reader. Dapprich and Schuster are to be congratulated for providing readers with a concise but clearly written introduction to the Ontology and Logic of Quantum Physics.
