Description
“There’s an incredible amount of depth and thinking in the practices described here, and it’s impressive to see it all in one place.”―Win Treese, coauthor of Designing Systems for Internet Commerce The Practice of Cloud System Administration, Volume 2, focuses on “distributed” or “cloud” computing and brings a DevOps/SRE sensibility to the practice of system administration. Unsatisfied with books that cover either design or operations in isolation, the authors created this authoritative reference centered on a comprehensive approach. Case studies and examples from Google, Etsy, Twitter, Facebook, Netflix, Amazon, and other industry giants are explained in practical ways that are useful to all enterprises. The new companion to the best-selling first volume, The Practice of System and Network Administration, Second Edition, this guide offers expert coverage of the following and many other crucial topics: Designing and building modern web and distributed systems Fundamentals of large system design Understand the new software engineering implications of cloud administration Make systems that are resilient to failure and grow and scale dynamically Implement DevOps principles and cultural changes IaaS/PaaS/SaaS and virtual platform selection Operating and running systems using the latest DevOps/SRE strategies Upgrade production systems with zero down-time What and how to automate; how to decide what not to automate On-call best practices that improve uptime Why distributed systems require fundamentally different system administration techniques Identify and resolve resiliency problems before they surprise you Assessing and evaluating your team’s operational effectiveness Manage the scientific process of continuous improvement A forty-page, pain-free assessment system you can start using today

Reviews from Amazon users which were colected at the time this book was published on the website:
⭐Illuminating real-world examples, great in-depth discussion of site reliability and scaling practices, and thorough explanations of the core concepts. A good companion to the AWS SysOps exam and friends.
⭐The title mentions Cloud administration, but this book is much more than that. The concepts covered here are excellent foundational IT operational ideas that are relevant to legacy IT systems. This is a great complement to the SRE book from Google Engineers. This book should be read by every IT leader who is interested in operating a high functioning team.
⭐Bought this book to supplement some research I am doing. Haven’t read it from cover to cover yet but have been through a number of chapters that are relevant to my research. I have a lot of experience operating cloud based solutions and this book was an excellent source of information for me. The authors obviously have years of experience running web scale systems. I highly recommend this book and do yourself a favor and make sure your organization follows the advice in this book. Running webscale systems is a tough task and requires strategies like the ones in this book.
⭐Awesome Book. would recommend to anyone gettting into the Agile Devops area
⭐Cloud systems admin book gave me a lot of insights into how a Systems Admin thinks and operates – useful to understand this workflow for someone like me in Information Security field
⭐A must read for every Cloud engineer and recent grad Software Engineer who plan to work on distributed systems.
⭐Great book, I have 20+ years of IT-operations experiance with running critical systems, yet still learned a lot from this book, Recommend it! /Rene Lambin
⭐If you’re only buying one technical book on Cloud or Cloud Administration, this is it. Superb and superbly written and covers it all, including DevOps.
⭐I work at BBC News using a well known cloud based infrastructure provider. This book helped me to understand important decisions that need to be made when designing a distributed and concurrent system. Many fundamental concepts were introduced and broken down for easy digestion. A very good book.
⭐I read first book yandears ago and thought that it was good. This one is even better. Not technical stuff. Some paragraphs a bit boring and reminds me of dreadful itil. But overall steers you towards agile/devops best practices. I’m a linux/ network admin and I found it brilliant.
⭐As I said in a company tech talk recently, if you took an average software engineer and got him/her to read this book, you could replace me as an operations engineer. As my manager was in the audience, this was perhaps an unwise truth to share. Quite simply, this book is a comprehensive overview and detailed instructional manual for the modern techniques of DevOps/SRE-style system administration.
⭐This book will turn your into DevOps engineer.
⭐This book tells you all the patterns you can use in production in order to scale systems as they grow. Very useful for beginners as well as experienced folks (DevOps/SRE/SysAdmins).
