⭐This is a classic. I couldn’t find my old copy (because I had it rebound and didn’t recognize the new spine in my math library. So bought a new copy. Then I found by old copy. So I now have a copy at home and a copy at work. It is the clearest rigorous exposition of Hilbert space I know of. It’s not an easy read if you are not used to “Modern Algebra” as in Birkhoff and McLane’s Introduction to Modern Algebra” (or whatever). But I find it neither too terse or outright sloppy. It’s a “Goldilocks” book on Hilbert Space. OF COURSE it deals with linear transformation. Hilbert space in the easiest infinite extension of Euclidean n-dimensional geometry. Like infinite quadratic forms, their canonical transformations and all that. If you know matrix algebra, especially from someone who describes it concretely and also Halmos FINITE dimensional vector spaces, the Stone is precisely the book for you.
