⭐ The first book by Coyle I read was _Team Yankee_. Other pretty good to excellent books followed. Alas, I was sorely disappointed by this one.The spell-check errors in the book are *very* distracting. Did anyone proof this book before sending it to press or did they just run spell check and call it good? There are numerous errors throughout. For example, “chalk” become “caulk” – and pretty consistently. “Maw” becomes “maul”. And, the list goes on. I doubt that Coyle made these errors himself, but they still found their way into print.Another distraction was the author’s politics. The story could have been told without any of the digs at democrats and liberals. Yes, I realize that the Army leans to the right. However, this book sometimes reads like a bit of Tea Party propaganda. No thanks to that. It does nothing for the story, only distracts from it.The story itself is well built and the threads of conflict twist and flow reasonably. But the book seems to simply fall off at the end. It builds to a climax and then suddenly we read that “they didn’t live happily every after, the end.”

⭐ Really great character portrayal and credible understanding of the factors which can operate in guerilla campaigns.I thought the final chapters were a bit rushed and didnt have the detail displayed in the rest of the book. still a good enjoyable read.

⭐ The major characters are well developed. There are twists that I didn’t see coming even though I had read all of the preceding and followup novels. I now understand the next book better. I give this book the highest number of stars.

⭐ I have been following the careers and adventures of Scott and Nathan Dixon from the beginning of this series.I recomend this books and the earlier books in the series. The plots-in this case dealing with the efforts of a terrorist group to embroil the U.S. in a guerilla conflict and inflict a Tet Offesnive like shock to the Ameircan public- allow Mr. Coyle to provide a painless tutorial on the modern United States Army. The tutorial is badly needed, given the state of world affairs. The techno thriller genre is simply a means to that end.Please note plots and character develpoment have improved tremendously since the author’s 1980’s first efforts. I found myself enjoying the lesson and caring about the Dixons.I recommend this book (and the earlier Dixon/U.S. Army novels).

⭐ This is a good read all the way through. The relationships between officers and enlisted men he describes is dead on based on my experience as an enlisted man. Vast majority of officers are very respectable and easy to follow but there are some like the battalion commander. The story line relates well to current events in the Philippines and the region. Read this thing.

⭐ Perhaps some re-editing has taken place because the mistakes that earlier reviews complained about were not obvious in the version I just completed. A definite improvement over “They were soldiers”. One event that took place set me back pretty hard. I too have been following the Dixon hero since the beginning and I cannot fathom how an author is able to do that to his bread and butter protagonist after 2 decades of dedicated service.

⭐ to the point and real. Does not gloss over the unpleasant facts of military life. Well edited and clearly written. Modern concerns treated well.

⭐ Between an overzealous terrorist and a control-freak climbing officer, the Dixon family has their work cut out for them in trying to survive the jungle forests. The plot intensifies as the book evolves when the U.S. Army arrives to settle the score with the terrorist.

⭐ I have enjoyed almost all of Coyle’s novels, and especially those utilitzing the Dixon’s. not this one. Way too slow on devloping,”bad gys” as enemies or on “our” side, that are too stupid/blind/etc., to be considered realsave your $ for another novel, and better luck next time,Mr Coyle.
