⭐This book offers a concise introduction to linear control theory, as the title indicates. The book reads in a conversational manner and de Oliveira finds a great balance between mathematics and intuition. The book is filled with many good exercises for the student willing to invest some time. One theme I enjoyed in this book is the development and revisiting of a handful of control problems that are resolved throughout the book. I found this very helpful in understanding differences in controllers. This also helps with understanding control design methods. The book is very good at going through the mathematics, but also reminding the reader why we are doing so, by showing how the controller changes for different controller gains. If you’re looking for a well thought out book on control that is actually readable in a semester, this is a great choice.
