Description
This textbook covers the design of electronic systems from the ground up, from drawing and CAD essentials to recycling requirements. Chapter by chapter, it deals with the challenges any modern system designer faces: The design process and its fundamentals, such as technical drawings and CAD, electronic system levels, assembly and packaging issues and appliance protection classes, reliability analysis, thermal management and cooling, electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), all the way to recycling requirements and environmental-friendly design principles. “This unique book provides fundamental, complete, and indispensable information regarding the design of electronic systems. This topic has not been addressed as complete and thorough anywhere before. Since the authors are world-renown experts, it is a foundational reference for today’s design professionals, as well as for the next generation of engineering students.” Dr. Patrick Groeneveld, Synopsys Inc.

⭐In my experience, far too many computer/electronic systems design books are either lacking in substance, narrowly focused, or too “academic” to be of use. I was pleasantly surprised to find Fundamentals of Electronic Systems Design a clear and satisfying book that seamlessly integrates (and explains) the key elements of successful electronics design. Although many engineers may be “strong” in a couple of areas (e.g., logic design, physical design, reliability, etc.), it is the rare one who truly understands the full range of concerns, their detailed interactions (both positive and negative), and the impact on the overall product and design process. As I read the book chapter by chapter, I appreciated how the authors presented such concerns and interactions (e.g., for reliability, thermal, electromagnetic, recycling, etc.), including how they can be managed and tamed throughout design and development. They used clear explanations and examples, and provided requisite equations and detailed color graphics and charts, which made learning the material both enjoyable and satisfying. American engineers (such as myself) may find the chapter on “design for recycling” of particular interest, as such material is barely mentioned (if at all) in many design courses. This book gives you knowledge and the insight behind many proven “German engineering” techniques, which can be applied to all future projects. A great book for both students and practicing engineers alike.
⭐As an engineer in charge of the overall system design of household appliances, I work “in-between” circuit design (IC, PCB) and electrical/mechanical engineering (packages, switches, enclosures, etc.). I must admit I could never find a useful book when I had to look up a problem; all of the books I found were often too narrowly focused on one of the topics. That’s why I’m glad this book came out – covering all topics that are of importance when designing appliances “as a whole”. I was positively surprised to see even the recycling issue covered – with solutions presented that I have never heard of.All in all this is a very good and informative book with clear explanations. I can recommend it for practicing engineers and students in electrical/mechanical engineering alike.
⭐This book provides an excellent (and long overdue) guide to electronic system design. The authors have created a comprehensive guide that covers all facets of the topic. With in-depth chapters on the design process itself, plus system architecture, reliability, thermal management, and electromagnetic compatibility, the authors provide an excellent teaching guide and reference work for students and veteran designers alike. The chapter on recycling is a bonus, as the subject is rarely covered elsewhere. Highly recommended for students and mid-career professionals looking to grow their technical knowledge.
⭐A much-needed user-friendly overview of the design process for electronic devices. Well organized and clearly written with ample illustrations this tome excels as course textbook, a learning guide and as a handy reference text. Provides the right amount of depth for a comprehensive guide and is well referenced for more in depth treatment of topics when required.
