User’s Reviews
Reviews from Amazon users which were colected at the time this book was published on the website:
⭐This is an extremely technical, but quite readable book which concerns itself strictly with vacuum tubes used in radio reception and audio amplification. All other uses for vacuum tubes had to be ignored or this would have been a set of “Tubology” encyclopedias, instead of a more concise but extremely thorough 1400+ page book on the subjects covered. The author not only understood his subject extremely well, but unlike a lot of smart folks was able to write in a clear and concise manner that non-electrical engineers like me can understand. Knowing almost nothing about the construction, operation and uses of the tubes in all the gear I grew up with but now want to know about, I have found this book to be a hugely valuable resource. But beware, this is NOT a bedtime story about tubes. This is a readable, but extremely technical book. For those who can do more with math than just balance their checkbook, there are all sorts of formulas included. If you’re lucky enough to find this book at a reasonable price, (and I recommend the 4th ed. published in 1952 when tubes were still in their heyday,) then buy it. By reasonable I mean 35 or 40 bucks. I have seen this book for well over a hundred, but wouldn’t buy it until I found one for a little over $30.00. If nothing else, it is an extremely valuable resource. If you’re looking for tube uses in radar, TV or any subjects other than the two noted above, look elsewhere. This book will do you no good. Loads of circuit examples in here that will help if you know how to read electronic schematics and understand the principles. Otherwise, you may find this book far too technical.
⭐I was surprised at the shipping cost and then further surprised at the Border Service GST levy and handling fees. All in they well exceeded the price of the book. Although none of this is the fault of the Vendor, and may be due to the current trade disputes, it would be helpful for future buyers to have this information, if possible.
⭐The book is a technical classic. I’d been wanting a copy for years, and was finally given permission to buy one. The copy I got is immaculate, looking almost new.My only complaint, a minor one, is the time it took. The book didn’t ship until several weeks after I ordered it. Even though I had been warned that might be the case, it was still hard to wait.
⭐Any of the RCA Radiotron Designer’s Handbooks are a must have for anybody who is interested in vacuum tube (valve) radios and amplifiers. They are the best source for circuit design and implementation. It’s getting harder and harder to learn correctly about vacuum tubes and RCA is the best source for doing it correctly. A must have book!!!!
⭐A classic handbook of radio circuit engineering. A highly desirable handbook to include on one’s library. Pack with commentary on vacuum tube technology circuitry and how it works.
⭐Arrived in perfect condition. This is my second copy, first was lost in a fire. Also use it to design speaker enclosures.
⭐Book came rapped up well and in a short time. As described and very happy with the seller.
⭐excellent fast delivery and the book was better condition than I expected….this is the bible of tube audio for anyone into audio with tubes this is a must have….
