    Description

For senior/graduate-level courses in Discrete-Time Signal Processing.Discrete-Time Signal Processing, Third Edition is the definitive, authoritative text on DSP – ideal for those with introductory-level knowledge of signals and systems. Written by prominent DSP pioneers, it provides thorough treatment of the fundamental theorems and properties of discrete-time linear systems, filtering, sampling, and discrete-time Fourier Analysis. By focusing on the general and universal concepts in discrete-time signal processing, it remains vital and relevant to the new challenges arising in the field.Access to the password-protected companion Website and myeBook is included with each new copy of Discrete-Time Signal Processing, Third Edition.

⭐I am writing this as an electrical engineering student at Brown University, RI, USA.My general comment for all textbooks by A. Oppenheim is:His books are exhaustive, professional and can be great references for your entire engineering career. However, from the pure student perspective, Oppenheim’s books are hard and confusing to read (in addition, the huge knowledge provided cannot be assimilated) for the purposes of a course. The books covers several aspects of Digital Signal Processing (DSP) and it’s considered the best of this kind. It contains what an signal processing electrical engineer needs for his job. There are many strict mathematical proofs which explain how the DSP concepts have been developed, but they make it really confusing to the student to understand the practical meaning of signal processing. The book has many many problems ranging from basic to extremely complex ones! These are generally a pain and their solutions require much thinking and deep understanding of the concepts (simple studying of the book’s theory material doesn’t help). In the newest editions, I think that there is a Matlab guide accompanying the book or a similar online tool, which provides ideas for Matlab probles/projects.As I said before, the book can be a great reference for a professional career and I definitely recommend it as such. It has been the 1st and most complete book of its kind describing the (fairly recent/new) concepts of DSP. However, be advised that it’s hard to read for a semester-long class. Definitely, good notes provided by the Professor and/or help and support from TAs or Professor are imperative to enhance understanding in a DSP course and improve performance in exams etc. Real-life projects and applications are even better to work on in order to realize the full realm and potential of DSP.

⭐I purchased this book as a reference book, since I am perusing my Ph D in signal processing. To be honest, I haven’t used this edition of the book yet, but since “Oppenheim and Schafer 2nd edition” was a excellent reference to learn digital signal processing, I expect this book to be as good if not better. Consult reviews of the Discrete-time signal processing 2nd edition to get a better understanding of how this book will be.The real reason I am giving feedback is to warn potential buyers and resellers about the on-line study guide offered in this book. This is an attempt of the publishers to get instructors to require that students complete this on-line guide. By getting instructors to use the on-line guide, they will severely cripple the used-book market since purchasing on-line access to the guide material is 60 to 70 bucks. You have been warned…

⭐Currently taking the class with Dr. Oppenheim at MIT and I have to say this is one of the best texts I have encountered, not just in the DSP field, but in electrical engineering in general. Well written, comprehensive, and extremely practical. This textbook is geared not just towards the mathematical theory, but towards design techniques and it is rich with examples. The chapters are a pleasure to read (compared to most other EE textbooks) and assesses all design aspects from the high level specifications to the actual procedure step by step. This book will remain on my bookshelf as my main DSP reference for years to come. And as usual, Amazon delivers promptly and in perfect condition.

⭐It boggles my mind why schools keep using this book to teach DSP! It serves more to confuse students than help! The book on a topic that relies heavily on math refuses to show it’s work. That is a cardinal sin for any math based course! Oppenheim will go through a ‘proof’ that involves not just looking back in a chapter, but to an example 200 pages earlier in the previous chapter and doesn’t reproduce it at all, forcing you to search the book for this example. By the time you find the example, you’ve forgotten what the hell you were doing! Then he continues by talking you through the math, again, without showing any math, and then he just gives up and writes the answer. Examples reference previous examples, again with no reproduction, they show no work, and so students are left wondering what the hell is going on. The problems at the back of the book are confusing and convoluted and the answers and solutions in the solution manual are flat out WRONG half the time! Please, if you are a teacher, I BEG YOU, look for another book! This one is not worth the paper it’s printed on! NO ONE WILL LEARN FROM THIS BOOK!

⭐I had to buy this article as mandatory textbook for a Digital Signal Processing graduate course. It is definitely a complete and deep treatment of digital signal processing. However, I found it a little bit difficult to read and this is why I used it mainly to try to understand those concepts that were not clear to me from the lectures/notes. So far, the book gave me all the answers I needed.

⭐While this is the “standard” DSP textbook, it is a difficult read even for engineering textbook standards.

⭐There isn’t much to review. It’s a textbook for a graduate-level course, so it doesn’t make much sense to review the book itself. 5 stars because the seller shipped fast and the book arrived in brand-new condition. It appeared to have never been opened at all, and was packed so thoroughly that not even the clumsiest USPS mail monkey could have damaged it. That’s what I want when buying big, heavy, weapons-grade books online.

⭐I didn’t look into the content of this book too much. It was a required textbook for one of my auditory classes but as for the paper quality of the book it is OK. The pages smell a little bit but acceptable.

⭐I got it as a textbook for my Digital signal processing course! It is a really hard book and it makes the course look harder then it actually is. Buy it as a textbook, but there are other books which are easier to read and understand!

⭐A must have. One of the most important textbooks on DSP. Content, writing and presentation quality is topnotch. If you are a beginner, start from the first chapter..

⭐Bueno es tal y como lo esperaba y cumple perfectamente mis expectativas
