Editorial Reviews: About the Author Steve Chapra is the Emeritus Professor and Emeritus Berger Chair in the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department at Tufts University. His other books include Surface Water-Quality Modeling, Numerical Methods for Engineers, and Applied Numerical Methods with Python. Dr. Chapra received engineering degrees from Manhattan College and the University of Michigan. Before joining Tufts, he worked for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, and taught at Texas A&M University, the University of Colorado, and Imperial College London. His general research interests focus on surface water-quality modeling and advanced computer applications in environmental engineering. He is a Fellow and Life Member of the American Society of Civil Engineering (ASCE) and has received many awards for his scholarly and academic contributions, including the Rudolph Hering Medal (ASCE) for his research, and the Meriam-Wiley Distinguished Author Award (American Society for Engineering Education). He has also been recognized as an outstanding teacher and advisor among the engineering faculties at Texas A&M University, the University of Colorado, and Tufts University. As a strong proponent of continuing education, he has also taught over 90 workshops for professionals on numerical methods, computer programming, and environmental modeling.Beyond his professional interests, he enjoys art, music (especially classical music, jazz, and bluegrass), and reading history. Despite unfounded rumors to the contrary, he never has, and never will, voluntarily bungee jump or sky dive.

⭐My group uses Matlab for numerical analysis, so I bought this book to learn Matlab in that context. (I don’t need to know ALL of the great things Matlab can do.) I’m proficient in a number of programming languages for a variety of application fields, I just don’t know Matlab.A year of calculus-based physics and a year of calculus are sufficient prerequisites to understand the application material. Studying the Matrices/Linear Algebra from a Mathematical Methods for Physicists/Engineers text will give you enough background in those topics.After a first read-through, the book addresses my questions on how to use Matlab. I look forward to using it a map to learn it.

⭐Item was exactly as described, no issues whatsoever. Required for a college course I was taking, cheaper than the bookstore!

⭐The description given about the book did not correspond with the book I received. The book I received was not a hardcover nor was it the 550 pages as described. It was the paperback version that contained 384 pages. However, regardless of being paperback rather than hardcover, it was still the same book I needed. I ordered it on thursday, and received it on monday. The shipping was extremely fast and I’m very happy about it, because I needed this book ASAP to do my studies. And the price of the book couldn’t be beat, I practically saved 60 bucks for a new book.

⭐I use this book. It is very short, but well written.If you want to learn numerical methods – Use Burden & Faires.But this book is for the end – user of the MATLAB numerical methods. It also gives some background info on these methods.
