From the Author About James RollinsJAMES ROLLINS is a #1 New York Times bestselling author of international thrillers that have been translated into more than forty languages. Known for unveiling unseen worlds, scientific breakthroughs, and historical secrets, Rollins’ knack for breakneck pacing and stunning originality has been hailed by critics and embraced by scores of millions of readers around the world. The Critics RaveThe New York Times says that his “roguish charm comes from his efforts to persuade readers the story is credible [through] real-life sources for his novel’s science, history and geography.” Rollins’ rare blend of action, suspense, and knowledge was also mentioned by the Huffington Post, which stated that “After Crichton passed away in 2008 he clearly passed the baton to James Rollins, who like Crichton, is a renaissance man.”NPR calls his work “adventurous and enormously engrossing…” and the New York Journal of Books had this to say: “If you’re a fan of smart, entertaining adventure fiction, this is your summer beach read writ large….All the science, all the history, and all the locations are masterfully intertwined. The characters are multi-dimensional. And the story is, well, a corker.”The Story Teller’s StoryAs a boy immersed in the scientific adventures of Doc Savage, the wonders of Jules Verne and H.G. Wells, and pulps such as The Shadow, The Spider, and The Avenger, James Rollins decided he wanted to be a writer. He honed his storytelling skills early, spinning elaborate tales that were often at the heart of pranks played on his brothers and sisters. Before he would set heroes and villains on harrowing adventures, Rollins embarked on a career in veterinary medicine, graduating from the University of Missouri and establishing a successful veterinary practice. This hands-on knowledge of medicine and science helps shape the research and scientific speculation that set James Rollins books apart.Explosive Page-Turning AdventuresThe exotic locales of James Rollins novels have emerged as a hybrid between imagination, research, and his extensive travels throughout the United States and Europe, as well as New Zealand, the South Pacific, China, Southeast Asia, Africa, Australia, and South America. Recent jaunts include book tours and stops across the country and several European nations to give talks, seminars, and media interviews. In recent years, much of James’ travel has involved meeting readers in small and large groups, at writing and fan conferences, and even aboard seagoing “seminars.” James’ mentoring and coaching skills have made him a sought after writing instructor and guest speaker for workshops, symposia, conventions, and other forums throughout the country.James Rollins is the author of nine thrillers in the bestselling Sigma Force series (Sandstorm, Map of Bones, Black Order, The Judas Strain, The Last Oracle, The Doomsday Key, The Devil Colony, Bloodline, and The Eye of God); six individual adventure thrillers; and the Jake Ransom middle grade series (Jake Ransom and the Skull King’s Shadow, Jake Ransom and the Howling Sphinx.)

⭐ This is the tale of two men who were raised together in England until the mother committed suicide,. The two made a blood pact by mixing their blood from a slash on their wrists together. Their names are Arthur and Christian. Arthur the journalist who works for the London Times. Christian is a photographer who decided to live in California but hasn’t spoken to his brother for a while. Arthur gets sent to cover a story on the death of a folk singer who was found dead with his throat torn open and an orchid besides him. Arthur is also looking for his brother Christian, whom he suspects has undergone a change and the orchid is his way to communicate to Arthur. After three other bodies, Christian comes to Arthur and almost kills him but throws him out the window instead. The blood connection saves Christian ‘s soul and he becomes a member of the Sanguinists, which is a group of men who were made vampires but ignore the blood lusts by only drinking consecrated wine which Christ’s blood but retains all the other strengths of a vampire ( vision,hearing,movement,etc.). Arthur continues to research what happened to his brother over the years, since his dream of Christian ‘s redemption when they were connected by shared blood. Many years later, Arthur wakes to the sight of an orchid on his bed and assumes that he is scheduled to die, not realizing his brother Christian is again trying to warn him to stop looking for answers because he, Arthur, has become known to another group that will kill him. Christian rescues his brother in the nick of time.
⭐ I don’t normally write book reviews because I’m not good at them. I read this short story to see if I wanted to read the others in the Sanguines series. My answer is NO. I barely made it though the short book. If you love the James Rollins Sigma Force series, I don’t recommend this book (or the series) – it’s nothing like the adventure, history and great story-telling of a Sigma Force novel. It’s about vampires.
⭐ I’m a big fan of James Rollins, who writes captivating adventure stories similar to Clive Cussler. If you’ve never read his books, here’s a short story, reasonably priced on Amazon Kindle Store to entice you to read the full novel “Innocent Blood,” an epic adventure of horror and enlightenment. In this story, 68 year-old Arthur Crane, a retired reporter living in San Francisco, wakes to the strong scent of flowers — frangipani and honeysuckle. For him, this is terrifying because it only means one thing … Death! And also, because there is an orchid flower on his pillow. This is the second time in his life he has experienced such symbolism. Years ago, when as a Times of London reporter he was sent to the United States to follow a murder investigation of a British entertainer. At that time there were more such murders in San Francisco where the victims had received an orchid flower, and within 24 hours, another orchid would be found with their dead body, throats slashed. Were the orchid murders a satanic ritual? Was his long lost brother, Christian, involved? Will Arthur live long enough to get all the answers? This story does not leave you hanging, but will inspire you to read the popular “Innocent Blood” novel. James Rollins does a fantastic job in creating adventure, mystery, horror, and myths of ostensibly historical event novels. Highly recommend for an hour of entertaining reading.
⭐ This short story just melted my heart it couldn’t have been written any better than it was. Two brothers brought together by despair and heartbreak who later came together and made a bond after a tragic death. Both loosing something in the process but manage to find each other will forever be connected by blood. I can’t get enough of this series I think it’s one of the best ones I’ve read for the year and WOW. Definitely a thrill and great read, HIGHLY recommend.
⭐ This short story offers some insight into one of the main characters in the second book in the Order of the Sanguines series. It can easily be read alone, for anybody interested in passing a short amount of time. Or it could be incorporated into the series. I would suggest reading the book between the first and second books in the series.
⭐ My only complaint about this book was that it was too short. Of course it is a short story, but I still wanted more of Christian’s story! If you’ve read the other books in the series, and liked them, I think you are sure to like this one too. The writing is even and flows so well, and the story is interesting and a bit horrifying all at the same time. It’s a great bridge between books, but it only took me 30 minutes or so to read it, and the ending left just a tad of resolution to be desired. Of course the 2nd novel has Christian as a main character, so it answers the questions that this short story leaves.
⭐ Another thrilling thrilling adventure, fictional series of good triumphing over evil and doing good for mankind. This is a supernatural tale of vampirism mixed with bits and pieces of historical fact that only James Rollins can weave into a super-supernatural tale to make it believable and exciting at the same time. I have read the whole series and found them very facinating. You will find yourself rooting for characters who normally would be the “bad guy” . John keeps you guessing and never fails to surprise you with his twists and turns in the tales of good and evil. A super super adventure.
⭐ Read them all and need them immensely. Great read as usual! Now on to the new stuff…perhaps Tracker and Kane…
⭐ After enjoying Book 1 in The Order Of The Sanguines Series, this was a fun quick prequel to Book 2.Looking forward to reading the following books!
⭐ This was my first short story purchase for my new Kindle (Christmas present). I am a fan of the Sanguine series and have already read everything published to date in this series, so this short story was a nice addendum to the existing plot lines. If, however, you have not read the series, I don’t know that this short story would make too much sense or provide a very rich reading experience in and of itself.
