User’s Reviews
Reviews from Amazon users which were colected at the time this book was published on the website:
⭐There isn’t much Indian history I’ve found that is easy to read and understand. You have to go WAY back in their history to even understand where the info is coming from. Their beliefs are more hand-me-down than written down in understandable (foreigners understandable) ways. Their history is much the same as other country’s historys but described in a hard to understand way. They have described alien aircraft down to present day craft, sky fights as has happened in present history but told in their way of understanding. Their myths are being proven to be truths by finding old sunken cities which were thought to be only in myths. It’s the verbage and way written that stymies me. I understand smooth cover books are cheaper to print but they are hard to hold, especially thick, large ones.
⭐This is an historically oriented account of Indian philosophy from the days of the Rig-Veda on. As such it’s interesting and informative, if not up to date.Indian philosophy is a very complex subject with a lot of subtle distinctions and technical language. It is hard to follow no matter how it is approached, but Dasgupta’ begin-at-the-beginning approach at least provides some context. However it is not easy going, given the nature of the subject and the amount of area covered. This isn’t a book for bathroom reading, but it will provide the interested reader with a general background on the subject.
⭐It is NOT only a related history, but a comprehensive and practical approach of all the indian systems. A nice initial approach to Indian way of thinking, and also a very ordered approach, trying to make a clear and comprehensive view from the old vedic and brahmanic stage, traveling trough Upanisads and arriving to buddhism. Includes an analysis of the yoga system, several specific schools of thought and general principles of indian philosophies. Excellent detailed reference system.
⭐The History of indian Philosophy is an excellent Book, volume I, for serious students, yoga teachers, and lovers of india. I do recommend it.
⭐an exceptional book which explains in simple language the various theories, history and evolution of Indian philosophies. I recommend all volumes by this author
⭐Marvelous erudite resource for the subject.V. V. Raman
⭐Very good book and it met my expectations.
⭐the book is a xerox the copy was too small, too difficult to read
⭐Finished my 3 chapters and as far i red about the development of Vedas. How the thoughts of ancient people works and they definitely ate beef and nowhere be hindu’s, though were nomads living tribal lives.
⭐In spite of the fact that this kindle version of Volume One is free, it is basically worthless. As already point out by a reviewer, the Sanskrit has been royally screwed up rendering the text into a frustrating jumble. Too bad because this is a very valuable set of texts.
⭐As advertised in the listing.
⭐Just like the author (Surendranatha) himself, this copy of book is also unmatchable!
⭐Good, Solved my purpose
