    Description

Simple and accessible wisdom from His Holiness the Dalai Lama on how to use compassionate anger for social transformationIn the real world, exploitation exists. In the real world, there is a huge and unjust gap between rich and poor. The question, from a Buddhist perspective, is how should we deal with inequality and social injustice? His Holiness the Dalai Lama teaches that it is wrong for a spiritual person to remain indifferent; we must struggle to solve these problems. These problems are brought to our consciousness because they anger us, and this little book teaches us how to deal with that anger. There are two types of anger. One type arises out of compassion and is useful and must be encouraged. The other type arises out of jealousy and envy and results in hatred, ill will, and harm. Here you will learn the Buddhist path to compassionate anger–a motivating force that can transform the negative into the positive and change the world.

Reviews from Amazon users which were colected at the time this book was published on the website:

⭐I loved the simplicity and motivation for looking at social injustice from a spiritual perspective.

⭐I have read many many texts by HH Dalai Lama and this one does not ring true to me. It could be Noriyuki Ueda’s interpretation and memory of an interview he had with the Dalai Lama, but it does not ring true as the actual words of the Dalai Lama. The language in this book is rough and clumsy, some uncharacteristic generalizations are made, not what I see in other texts by His Holiness.

⭐Didn’t talk about how to handle personal anger. Was a diatribe about Buddhist differences in different parts of the world, and could sum up the book by saying there is such a thing a just anger.

⭐It’s great just hear his voice, but it’s a little weird that it’s an interview. And the interviewer sounds a little pompous to me, especially to be sitting with the Dalai Lama. I wouldn’t bother. There are so many better books around.

⭐This was really trite. It basically had one thing to say about anger and it just repeated that in different fonts (anger is good when directed at Injustice, bad when directed at hating people). But it never got into process or how to not let even righteous anger consume you and break your body by always being there. It even wandered into irrelevant topics and complained about Japanese Buddhists a lot.The author was clearly desperate to create enough pages and page-size pull quotes that repeated to justify a “book” and charge $10.I’m angry! ;)But seriously, a lot of us are angry as bigoted demagogues rise worldwide. This was a major missed opportunity at a time when we could use some real wisdom on this topic.
