⭐I believe anyone who has studied free resolutions in commutative algebra will enjoy reading this book. It gives you the “big picture” on free resolutions with lots of historical perspective, as well as cover the major theorems and techniques known up until the book was published. The best aspect is that the book shows you how to *use* resolutions.This isn’t an introductory book, but I think it is ideal for graduate students doing research in commutative algebra.On the minus side, the edges of the book wore quickly in my book bag, so you should get a book cover. However, the pages inside are still perfectly white in color after nearly 7 years. Also, the price has doubled since I bought my copy in 2007, which unfortunately will relegate the book solely to library bookshelves. If you know a poor advanced graduate student who studies commutative algebra or algebraic geometry, this book would make a nice holiday gift. Seriously.
