⭐The first book has articles by the “young Turks” like Curtis McMullen and Linda Keen.The complex dynamics “revolution” was taking place and later Curtis McMullen made pictures as well.Linda Keen published crude computer generated of complex dynamics sets in her article. Curtis McMullen actually has two articles in this volume, but the paper “Automorphisms of rational maps” is a classic. A paper by Robert Brooks gives a definition of a Kleinan group for a genus 3 Riemannian surface on 7 vertices that is two isospectral/ sound alike “smooth” obifolds on the Fuchsian triangle group <7,7,7> that is a 14 element group that may even be related to the exceptional group G_2. The graph he gives a four crossing knot that may be a bridge knot.This volume in contrast to the second volume is a better deal even with all the clunker papers in between.The paper on solving Fricke-Markov functions for pierced sets by Steingorn is challenging, but puzzling with the trace zero matrices defined.By comparison to other books I have found “cheap” this one is a star.The McMullen paper makes it worth the time to read.
