In West Asia and Burma, the brief European imprint created the ethnic conflicts that still plague these regions. The British Indian Army held the edifice of empire together. Ultimately, it was the undermining of its legitimacy by the armies of Subhas Bose, Sukarno, Ho Chi Minh and Aung San that helped end the ravaging of Asia during the first half of the twentieth century. By the end of the century, the eastern part of the liberated continent, had emulated Japan and Singapore in transforming itself into an industrious, dynamic and increasingly creative force finally capable of taking its people to new heights in an Asian twenty-first century.

⭐This book is different from other histories of Asia for three reasons. First, many books deal with the history of individual countries, or small sub-regions of Asia. This deals with the entire continent. Second, most pan-Asian histories are written from a Western perspective, highlighting developments that appear to be relevant to their world view. This book looks at history from the Asian perspective, highlighting many developments that Western (and Westernized Asian scholars) ignore. Third, there is a wealth of data, impressively deep local research, and unique perspectives in this narrative. You should read this book to see Asia from a very different perspective, and challenge existing views of the continent.

⭐Basu’s book is erudite and exhaustive.

⭐As the world prepares itself for a second Cold War and countries are compelled to choose sides, Asia Reborn provides a timely overview of what is perhaps the most explosive continent in the world today.Down what smoky river has China sailed to reach where it is now? What wearisome road has brought India to where it is? What European shenanigans led to the mess that the Middle East is? What imperial road did Japan march on to reach the first world? Basu’s book covers all this and much more.

⭐Asia Reborn Prasenjit’s magnum opus fills a much needed vacuum that reveals the Colonial thuggery that sucked the life-blood of the countries of this continent. And how it is climbing out of the mess left behind to never before prosperity. It’s definitely a seminal work.The non linear structure can leave one confused and having to relook earlier chapters to pick up the thread. It’s not history; with social comment and financial insights thrilling the writer. The conclusions drawn would have been better left for the reader to realise.But kudos for this massive effort, in what is definitely a first to look at the continent as one entity.

⭐I am just half way through but this book is unputdownable if you are interested in the history of South and South East Asia without the bias of the colonizers. I will update the review once I finish reading the book.

⭐Must read book. For all. Hats off to Shri. Prasenjit Basu ji. Very well researched and written book. Should be compulsory in all Higher classes of schools and Universities teaching Economics & History.

⭐Best part of this book is that it compiled what got us freedom. Talked to the author at an event where he said a book just for the Indian version is coming out soon
