Description
This text is well-designed with respect to the exposition from the preliminary to the more advanced and the applications interwoven throughout. It provides the essential foundations for the theory as well as the basic facts relating to almost periodicity. In six structured and self-contained chapters, the author unifies the treatment of various classes of almost periodic functions, while uniquely addressing oscillations and waves in the almost periodic case. This is the first text to present the latest results in almost periodic oscillations and waves. The presentation level and inclusion of several clearly presented proofs make this work ideal for graduate students in engineering and science. The concept of almost periodicity is widely applicable to continuuum mechanics, electromagnetic theory, plasma physics, dynamical systems, and astronomy, which makes the book a useful tool for mathematicians and physicists.

⭐This book is really a thorough and up to date treatment of Almost Periodic Functions. Perhaps Springer didn’t want to title it that way because most of the work on APF was done in the 1920s and 1930s, and to emphasize the more modern dynamical systems and quantum applications, oscillations and waves were chosen. That’s not to say that they also aren’t covered– the quarter or so of the book that covers them is the ONLY coverage available today outside of journals and online research databases.Of course almost periodicity in dynamical systems, in the sense of inexact path retraces through phase space, also is a very well trodden area of astronomy and planetary motion. The book is well written and the math is graduate level. All aspects of Almost Periodic Functions are covered, from historic to modern applications, as well as proofs and analysis. This includes Bohr, Bochner, Stepanov, Weyl, Kronecker, von Neumann, Besicovitch, abelians, and of course newer research in quantum wave and oscillation theory, music and voice synthesis, and much more. Group theory and uniformly convergent subsequences are briefly mentioned, but more tangential Fourier transforms, chemical and moleculary applications of group theory, and resonance are not detailed.Need we say more than the fact that this is the ONLY complete text covering APF’s since the 1930’s? All the other coverage has been in journals or online. The book’s price is a great savings over those journals, and third party sellers on Amazon often offer the text at a fraction of the intial publisher’s price. Both pure mathematicians (studying the solvability of differential equations, for example) and engineers will find this of great value, as long as you realize the math assumes graduate level competence.
