Description
This self-contained textbook gives a thorough exposition of multivariable calculus. The emphasis is on correlating general concepts and results of multivariable calculus with their counterparts in one-variable calculus. Further, the book includes genuine analogues of basic results in one-variable calculus, such as the mean value theorem and the fundamental theorem of calculus. This book is distinguished from others on the subject: it examines topics not typically covered, such as monotonicity, bimonotonicity, and convexity, together with their relation to partial differentiation, cubature rules for approximate evaluation of double integrals, and conditional as well as unconditional convergence of double series and improper double integrals. Each chapter contains detailed proofs of relevant results, along with numerous examples and a wide collection of exercises of varying degrees of difficulty, making the book useful to undergraduate and graduate students alike.

⭐Following on the equally excellent A Course in Calculus and Real Analysis, the authors embark on a visually pleasing, thorough and unique journey that somehow exceeds their opening act. Tons of colored illustrations show the meaning of important definitions, theorems and passages in proofs and examples. TONS of questions – something not unfamiliar to customers of ACICARA (as they label their first book) – are available after each chapter, some of which should be routine to standard and honors students, some of which would be good for introductory proof and advanced computation courses, and some of which I – having a Ph.D. in the subject myself! – haven’t been able to tackle at first (and second, and often third … ) glance. My only gripe is even addressed in the pages of the text – no differential geometry/forms is included. Like all the rest of the book, though, this even led to learning something new about calculus – another candidate for generalized Stokes’ Theorem was presented with a proof so clean that I wondered why I didn’t think of it myself! In future updates, I would be excited to see the authors add an appendix or a chapter on this topic, as their thoughts are valued on everything they have given themselves to in these pages. These two volumes are truly a labor of love and serve as an alternative to whatever your choices for Honors Calculus or a senior/beginning graduate Analysis sequence may be. Honors programs may even consider REUSING them between these two courses, focusing more on proofs and the proof-heavy side of the problem sets the second time around. These are definitely books for more than one reading!
⭐Amazing Book for multivariable calculus!
⭐Good but not bettr. Geometric approches absent.
