⭐This book is written for the expert well steeped in the intricacies of commutative algebra and related fields. A full year grad course in abstract algebra followed by a course in CommAlge is the barest minimum and even then, the text assumes much of the reader: Koszul complexes and Cohen-Macaulay are not even defined and you are assumed to be well acquainted with projective resolutions as a tool. The title object, Rees Algebras, are examined in detail, but, again, you need to know a great deal about them before the book will make sense.Because of that, I give the book only 4 stars. It would have been more useful to a broader readership were it to have included more basic material and examples.
