Reviews from Amazon users which were colected at the time this book was published on the website:
⭐Good book for learning SQL.But sometimes the book contains a lot of unimportant and unpractical details…. The explanations are also sometimes a hard for the beginners to grasp. The structure of the book is organized to cover different topics comprehensively (the book is subdivided into 7 minibooks)…. Thus, those who want to learn SQL reading the book throughly from the beginning to an end, first encounter highly specified details about such topics as data base application development process, and only in several hundreds pages they start to read about rules and syntax of SQL language and queries…. That is not too comfortable for the learning purposes for the beginners.
⭐I’m sorry but, having completed Book I, I’m just not grasping the underlying structure of this book. Its purpose, or intended audience, actually seems to vary and be unfocused. One minute, information is conveyed as if we have a background in the field; then later seems to assume there is no previous knowledge. Many of the examples really don’t make sense to those with experience. If I didn’t already know a good bit about this stuff, I’m not sure where I’d be in terms of understanding the material. I wouldn’t want this to lay my foundation, nor do I think that it could.I didn’t worry too much about buying a ‘For Dummies’ book, because I thought they were somehow reviewed and approved by a board of some sort, for clarity and quality of content.I’m also sorry to see I paid so much for it. Not sure I will get what I wanted from it, which was to fill in some gaps and acquire a quick synopsis of SQL.
⭐This is a really good reference book on a wide variety of SQL information. I don’t have an SQL background but needed to learn how to write queries for work. Was able to quickly learn the basics so I could write primary level queries
⭐Good Product
⭐I’m currently in an SQL class and having a tough time understanding things. I bought this book because I also have to take a second more advanced SQL class next semester. This book didn’t help me understand anything! It’s as confusing to me as my textbook. If you’re looking for a book that will explain how JOIN or UNION works, don’t buy this book. I currectly have another SQL book on order; hopefully that will be more helpful.
⭐I think I’ve had three or four of these ‘All-In-One’ references over time and they all tend to suffer the same issue. That is, they repeat the same content within the different sections, repeating word for word and even page for page. I read one section, move to another and realise that I’m re-reading the same content.I appreciate the idea that each section could be read in isolation, but repeating entire pages is a bit cheeky and distracting.Anyway, the book is good in parts and includes some interesting discussions. But the contect that actually teaches SQL syntax is too brief. I was primarily interested in query optimization but the content for this is not specific enough. It’s still an interesting book and can be purchased at a good price, but I wouldn’t recommend it as a book to teach you SQL. (Note: there is a more recent edition than the one I’m reviewing.)
⭐This is not a 5 star rating due to the actual reason for this book and the context…SQL. I got a job that needed me to learn SQL and I was nervous and confused reading other material. TO be honest I tohught this was just going to be confusing as well. Actually it was not that bad. I was able to learn what I needed to and could use this as a refernce manual when needed. So if you are not as SQL literate as me…this can hopefully help you out and let you do your job well.
⭐Good book to introduce you to SQL
⭐Actually don’t know where this book has gone, however was good gives you everything you need to get going for a good price.
⭐Good book and great price
