Here’s the fun and easy way to understand all the hype about Skype and make this cool alternative communication system work for you People love Skype because it’s fairly simple to use, it’s free, it doesn’t have advertisements or pop-up screens, and its communications are encrypted and secure. If you want the ability to make free voice calls or want to maximize Skype and get the most out of this free global telephony system, you’ve come to the right place. All you need to get going with Skype is a computer with Internet access, a headset or microphone — and this book! Although the technology is simple, it has some complexities when you go beyond making simple calls. Skype For Dummies covers call forwarding, voice mail, and conference calling and explains the use of two very popular and important Skype features: SkypeIn: Receive telephone calls that you can answer through Skype on your computer SkypeOut: Make calls out to regular old telephones from your computer This no-nonsense guide is written in plain English, leaving the jargon at the door. You’ll learn to Install and configure Skype on different platforms and various mobile connections Create a contacts list Set up voicemail and call forwarding Use Skype for worldwide conference calls and Skypecasting Enhance Skype with Bluetooth, Wi-Fi wireless, and video Change your Skype menus to a different language Adjust different hardware configurations and add-ons Troubleshoot problems with hardware configurations and other common issues Skype For Dummies provides guidance on using this technology in a business setting, including some implementations that can help reduce support desk costs and automate surveys and interviews. A popular use of Skype is for video calling, and the book shows how you can easily install and configure this can’t-miss feature. A dedicated web site keeps the book up to date as Skype adds new features. Additionally, you’ll discover ten ways to use Skype to promote your business and ten ways to use Skype at school. With an appendix on multilanguage support and another on tips and tricks, you won’t want to Skype anyone until you have your copy of Skype For Dummies in hand.

Reviews from Amazon users which were colected at the time this book was published on the website:
⭐I give this SKYPE For Dummies five stars because it is so comprehensive, and a good guide. Most webcams as well as SKYPE provide enough information so that if you are simply using SKYPE to make single calls this book is not essential. However, if you get into problems or need to make Conference Calls or similar complicated calls this book is necessary. I must say, however, that since SKYPE frequently revises its Website you will find that many illustrations in the book are outdated. The basic information remains intact and useful.
⭐I somehow missed the 2007 publication date as well so the book is basically useless. It also came in terrible condition. It was stamped“Discard” which is very good advice.
⭐The indexing could be much better and use terms that dummies would use rather than the technical terms or current popular descriptions. It took me over 30 minutes to find out how one views what the camera sees. It was all the way on page 116 under making a video call. And, then it was all the way to the bottom in a NOTE section. This is important, it should have its own section and called something that relates to viewing what the camera will be displaying.
⭐20 year old book … for a high tech product. Missleading, outdated — Useless
⭐Good tutorial and look-up source for those who are not experts in SKYPE use. I got what I paid for. Color me satisfied.
⭐This is a great book. Best dummies book i have ever seen and I have a lot of them.If you use skype it is a great reference! If you haven’t used Skype It make the limitations of Skype understandable, together with unique uses it could have for businesses, groups or extended large families. If you are curious aboutskype or wonder how you might use it BUY THIS BOOK
⭐OK this is a good book because I have the hardcover but it’s also a copyright 2007 which means it’s about 5 years old. The Kindle edition and the copyright are different so be careful with all the books you order in the Kindle store. Make sure you go into the book and check the copyright. How much do you think Skype has change in 5 years?
⭐It is unfortunate that it is so out of date. A publication date would have alerted me to look elsewhere. I will likely return it for a more current source.
⭐As I knew very little about Skype before I purchased this book it was pleasing to find that I could understand somethings right from the beginning. The book is very informative but I was a little confused by the way reference was made to chapters further on in the book. Apart from this I found that the information was useful and entetaining. No real problems were ecountered and I certainly know more on the subject than before. Overall I rate this as a good buy.
⭐Good book
⭐THIRTEEN YEARS OUT OF DATE. A complete waste of money and a TOTAL RIP – OFF. Never again.
⭐I bought this book because I wanted to get in to Skype but didn’t have a clue how to. It’s very useful, advising on what to do and what to buy, and then it goes in to more detail for advanced useage. Highly recommended for anyone starting out with Skype, but even experienced Skypers will almost certainly learn a thing or two.
⭐The missus loved it. Saves me being pestered every 5 minutes.
