Description

…every page shows evidence of great mastery of the subject.’ Trans. Faraday Society ‘this book is destined to play a major part in the future education of theoretical physicists.’ Proceedings of the Physical Society This edition has been completelyrevised to include some 20% of new material. Important recent developments such as the theory of Regge poles are now included. Many problems with solutions have been added to those already contained in the book.

User’s Reviews

Reviews from Amazon users which were colected at the time this book was published on the website:

⭐You definitely need their “compilation of tasks” (рус. Сборник задач по квантовой механике) to parallel its contents and challenge your learning. Luckily, each good Russian university uses this book as a standard textbook-even these days. So once one knows Russian language, looking for these compilations will be easy! The author assumes reader are already familiar with math logics and background theories… it will not be an easy book

⭐Kindle version of Landau’s course of theoretical physics contains many typo. Quantum Mechanics is not an exception. Be careful to read kindle version of this book. Compare it with the printed version, if possible.

⭐The equations in this text are unreadable in the Kindle edition. They look like they were made with Microsoft Word equation editor in 1997. Furthermore, there are several equations with absurd mistakes, “In particular, the operator f^{-3} is called the inverse…”. Oh, REALLY? These must surely be transcription errors, not in the print version of this classic text. Don’t buy the kindle edition.

⭐This is a very good book on non-relativistic quantum mechanics by an acknowledged master of theoretical physics. Almost every sentence is meaningful and well thought out. However this book is not meant for a novice who wishes to study the subject for the first time. Landau’s unique perspectives on this subject (as well as others in his famous Course of Theoretical Physics) is best appreciated by physicists who are well versed in their disciplines. The reader should also be aware that recent developments such as quantum entanglement and quantum computation are not in the book. All in all, a very good book to add to your physics collection.

⭐This wonderful course of theoretical physics is written by outstanding scientists and is deep and clear. It gives you the opportunity not only to become acquainted with the basic problems of quantum mechanics but also to feel what is physical intuition and method of theoretical thinking. The ability of understanding the essense of the problem and making qualitative estimations (simple numerically but working pretty well) is the characteristic feature of Landau school.
