⭐Ok so I have zero background in physics or Math. I’m 40 and pretty high up in the technology field so I’m a pretty smart man. I wanted to learn more about Quantum Physics and decided to get this book. I’m still reading it but as of now I would say that anyone that doesn’t have a general background into Classical Physics should start their first. For the most part this book isn’t too terribly hard to follow but as with most subjects as diverse as this there’s just too much information to cover in the short chapters. This book will give you a general overview of things but no real in-depth insight. The first chapter goes through the units of measure used frequently throughout the book and if you have a hard time grasping those concepts (as I did) you are going to feel lost quite a bit in the later chapters. I’ve found over the years that most people who do understand these subjects have no clue how to translate that knowledge to the average person. If you’re like me and you want a more detailed understanding of things from the bottom up you’ll want do a little more research. I give the book a great rating but I would strongly recommend that if you are truly a beginner in the world of physics that you start with classical physics first and then step into the realm of Quantum Physics. If you already have a good understanding of things like gravity, magnetism, and electricity and are looking for a good starting point for quantum physics then this isn’t a bad starting point.

⭐I picked up this book in hope of enlighten me, who is not familiar with science, physics especially, upon Quantum physics. Chapter one was easy to understand; I gladly breezed though. But I have to admit that the rest of the chapters in the book were confusing and very hard to understand the concepts that the author was kindly describing.I did get what I wanted from the book. One of which was being enlightened. I did, forsooth, learn many things. Along with the text, I had to look up some youtube videos and articles available online. wave-particle dulaity traits of many particles including light and electrons; the nuclear fission and fusion for energy and bomb; superconductivity; semi insulator’s utilization in computer chips; maxwell’s formula; and so on.I wish I could have understood the book more than I did. I felt like I got about 40% of what the author wanted me to understand. Still, I feel like I gained much insight on Quantum physics. I will come back to this book, maybe after a number of books regarding Quatum physics and see if I can understand more.I feel like the book could have been written in friendly manner and more warmth to it. However, it served its purpose.

⭐This book provided a pretty good intro to the subject. Still a lot to learn. I thought it would cover a little about Schrodingers wave equation but not to be. I guess I will try another book.

⭐It is an entertaining introduction to quantum physics with the adequate amount of background and physics history. It is easily understandable up to a certain point for persons that are not familiar with physics. At some point the explanaitions do get a bit complicated and involve concepts that are not self-evident and might require additional reading to be fully understood.The book is constructed in a way that you will be able to understand the general concept even if you do not fully understand all the details.

⭐I enjoyed this book. It is written in a style that is quite easily readable (if you already have some working knowledge and fluency in physics), and Alistair Rae provides some very amusing anecdotes about the physicists he speaks of. I felt that the author skipped around a lot, especially in his explanation of the standard model, and I had to repeatedly go back and review to make sense of some threads of thought. However, one big plus is the questions that Rae provides at the back of the book, which helped me check my understanding. Overall this book was well worth reading, but don’t expect this single book to suffice as an overview of quantum physics.

⭐Overall, I definitely got what I wanted out of this book. For those of you who want a mathy approach to the subject, this is probably not the book for you. I know very little about the subject, so I wanted a book that would enable me to get a big picture so I could tell if a certain aspect of quantum physics interests me. This book serves that function well.No direct reflection on the author, but there are a number of significant numerical errors in the first chapter or so. They are almost certainly due to poor typesetting, I’m sure the author can tear up the math.

⭐I read a review in which the reviewer said he reads 5 books a year and that makes him an authority. That made me chuckle. I think Einstein himself said, he was no Einstein.I’ve read about 3 dozen books on math and physics in the last 2 years and I’m not even close to being an authority, but this is another book I am happy to add to my list. Alastair Rae has the gift of not talking down to the reader. What I particularly like are the summaries and notes at the end of each chapter; it just seems to tie everything together. The book has mathematical boxes throughout, which can be skipped by the reader and still manage to get the over-all message.All in all, Rae offers a good introduction to quatum for those who are new to the field, as well as a refresher for anyone with experience.

⭐It would be easy to be critical of this book, but given the subject matter the author has made a worthy effort at explaining quantum physics in a manner that does not require the reader to possess an advanced degree in pure mathematics. This said, some of the content will still pose a challenge to those without some prior knowledge of physics and related sciences although any aspiring quantum physicist will undoubtedly find it of interest.By his own admission, the author advises that many statements will have to be accepted on trust as the proof lies only in exotic maths which has no place in a beginner’s guide! Given this approach, the inclusion of `Mathematical Boxes’ is questionable as these contribute little to the general understanding of the text/diagrams and most readers will probably ignore them.The text is generally free of jargon, but the terminology is sometimes inconsistent leading to the thread of an explanation been lost. Supporting diagrams are as helpful as they can be given they attempt to illustrate things and processes that can never be seen. The quantum world is one that does not lend itself to meaningful analogies and the reader is warned not to take those provided too literally. Unfortunately these factors have a collective negative impact which may deter casual readers from finishing the book.In terms of readability I would say 55% is easy, 30% challenging and the remainder very difficult, but as a primer on the subject it’s probably as good as it gets, so on balance I give it a four star rating. For the reader interested in a less technical but more historical approach, I would recommend `Quantum’ by Manjit Kumar which is much easier and interesting read.

⭐I’d love to understand more about quantum physics and with a Bsc hons I would have thought that might be possible but I’m sorry to say that unless you have a very good understanding of atomic structures and the associated maths you will struggle with this book!

⭐This, and the other books in this series that I have read, all offer a great intro to their areas. Whilst bits may not sink in entirely at first read, they provide good background to build on for those prepared to spare a little time on them.

⭐I finished this a few weeks ago and although a lot of it was quite difficult to understand, there were some hugely important explanations of things like greenhouse gases and how they’re underpinned by quantum physics. Climate change deniers would be well advised to read from page 80 onwards.

⭐Having always had an interest in Physics since my A-level days, I thought I’d go for broke and brush up on my knowledge of Quantum Physics. Alastair Rae’s book was really great for easing me back into the subject matter, since I hadn’t looked at a physics book for over 7 years prior. His explanations aare simple yet thorough. Some did however test my memory, recalling those glory days of my college A-level lectures. I great one to recommend for anyone who’s interested in the topic.
