Description

This textbook is written as a basic introduction to Quantum Mechanics for use by the undergraduate students in physics, who are exposed to this subject for the first time. Providing a gentle introduction to the subject, it fills the gap between the available books which provide comprehensive coverage appropriate for postgraduate courses and the ones on Modern Physics which give a rather incomplete treatment of the subject leaving out many conceptual and mathematical details. The author sets out with Planck’s quantum hypothesis and takes the student along through the new concepts and ideas, providing an easy-to-understand description of core quantum concepts and basic mathematical structures. The fundamental principles and the mathematical formalism introduced, are amply illustrated through a number of solved examples. Chapter-end exercises and review questions, generally designed as per the examination pattern, serve to reinforce the material learnt. Chapter-end summaries capture the key points discussed in the text. Beside the students of physics, the book can also be used by students of chemistry and first-year students of all branches of engineering for gaining a basic understanding of quantum mechanics, otherwise considered a difficult subject.

User’s Reviews

Reviews from Amazon users which were colected at the time this book was published on the website:

⭐This is a brilliant book. It is carefully focused on developing the theory with equal importance on the ability to reason scientifically and to be able to do calculations. The theory is presented incrementally and developed in worked examples and finally in exercises. The student who works all the examples and exercises will be fully grounded in undergraduate Quantum Mechanics. The non physicist who is interested in detail can follow this book as long as he/she is grounded in algebra and ordinary differential equations.

⭐This book is well written and comparatively easy to understand. It’s five stars compared to other books about quantum mechanics that I have tried to read, but those books generally settle around one star. This book is very good but it could be improved. That’s why I only gave it four stars.

⭐As the title states, this book would be an excellent college textbook for physics undergraduates. It is also ideal as a supplement for students taking quantum mechanics and as a preparatory text for students about to take quantum mechanics and as a refresher for those who have taken it in the past. Not recommended for the layman who may be interested in only general concepts. Plenty of equations and diagrams that show up nicely on my 7″ Kindle Fire and plenty of example questions to work to help with conceptual understanding.

⭐My problem is that the kindle version does not work properly. I have the kindle app on a samsung tablet. Each page shrinks to an unreadable size; I have to pinch to zoom and re-position each page. Go to next page, and I need to do it all over again. The app hung at one point and when I restarted the app, it lost my place in the book. There is a weird state it gets into where it keeps trying to re-flow the text and blinks like a neon sign.I can’t tell if the text is good, since the kindle version doesn’t work for me.

⭐easy enough to get a grounding in quantum mechanics, if your mathematical skills are average or better.

⭐I wanted a book that was easier to understand since a lot of the books on Quantum Mechanics assume that you area graduate with the pre-reqs required for the level these guys are at. This is that book. Happy reading if you are interested in the subject!

⭐It is really a pity that this excellent book cannot be read on kindle paperwhite 🙁

⭐This is an excellent text book on the field of quantum mechanics for anyone with a scientific background who is interested in it. I would vouch for it.

⭐Good Product

⭐Brilliant! Great content, straight to the point, clear illustrations and amazing value for money. I would highly recommend this book.

⭐Perhaps it is unfair to give a book a lower review because it won’t work with your brand new kindle, but c’est la vie. This book itself is an excellent book on quantum mechanics. If you want a text book that clearly explains quantum mechanics without throwing you immediately into bra-ket notation and complex mathematics (no pun intended), this is a good place to start. Also, it should be noted that just because the target audience is undergraduates, it is still quantum mechanics; some subjects are just difficult to learn. However, its approach is as clear and accessible as it can be without demanding large amounts of prerequisite knowledge.

⭐A decent book to understand basics. Better buy the H C Verma’s book. I wish i could return it but it’s too late now.

⭐The introduction about quantum mechanics is written by author Mahesh Jain is very interested.he wrote historically the development of quantum mechanics with different approaches of genius physicists.A very good and simplest book for beginners.very nice printing
