Reviews from Amazon users which were colected at the time this book was published on the website:
⭐Well written book on Real Time Location Services (RTLS). Helps with all of the new acronyms and provides examples of various schemes along with best use models. Best of all, it clearly defines the value of RTLS. A technology is only as good as the value it provides its end users. While I already knew what RTLS is, this book gave me a much better idea of why companies would want to adopt it and what return they might expect. The book is easy to read, is well-formatted for Kindle and has no noticeable spelling or grammar errors. (Something rare in technical books these days.) Highly recommended.
⭐RTLS for Dummies encapsulates the essence of RTLS and how it can be applied to real world situations. It dissects, in simple to follow language, why an RTLS can benefit your business. The author’s approach builds a framework in which to understand RTLS for specific applications while reinforcing the need to get a return on your RTLS investment. The real world examples also reinforce the importance of choosing the right RTLS.This was not written for the RTLS professional, so the techie crowd will probably think it is a bit dumbed down for their tastes but even for them, it provides an in-depth knowledge of how a customer will view their technology. It a great reference for RTLS end customers that struggle to understand the tangible benefits of RTLS – from both a technical and business perspective. The author’s practical knowledge brings together both of these highly important aspects to allow people purchasing RTLS to make informed decisions. I plan on recommending this to my end customers so they can become more educated.
⭐Gives you high level overview of what Real Time Location Systems are, their kinds and so on,However, it is kind of dry reading, author should learn to present the topic in better way to make so interesting topic really interesting.
⭐RTLS for Dummies is worth the money as a really great overview about technology concepts. But, on RTLS products the book has not much quality beyond the levels of Wikipedia lemmata: Some of the reports on existing concepts lack authenticity and validity. The statements on CSS (page 206), for example, may refer strongly to the IEEE standard, but do not reflect the actual offer on the market as state of the art since November 2006. Similar with UWB: Existing products are not named. Existing standard ISO/IEC 19762-5 defining RTLS is not referred, etc.The central weakness of the book is the lacking of any consideration on motion: Whatever should be located by RTLS changes its location by motion. RTLS motion tracking capability is the limiting factor of most of the cheap and easy looking approaches on locating. RTLS Real time capability reflects the capability to cope with motion of the targets, and many of the named approaches do nothing with respect to motion at all.Besides, the missing of a glossary is no help for RTLS novices. And, who will buy an RTLS book for good recipes on life cycle maintenance for transponder batteries? Again, the book is worth the money, especially to get in touch with RTLS technologies. It serves the aim of the Dummies series. For thorough research on suitability and comparison of RTLS solutions other titles should be preferred. Does any better exist?
⭐Would recommend this book to anyone who is actively working with Location BasedServices, or is planning on working with Location Based Services. The initialsections of the book gives comprehensive use cases, where location basedservices are/can be used. The author then goes into the details of differenttechnologies that are out there in the market that can be used to implementthese services. For each technology, the author first describes the technologyand then discusses the pros/cons of using that technology to implement thesolution. These gives a very good idea, of what technology should be used fromthe cost/technical perspective for a particular solution. For e.g. what is theexpected responsiveness of RTLS for your particular solution, what is theaccuracy that you desire, is it room-level or is zone-level good enough, how big a tag is acceptable for your solution, what is the expected batterylife of the tag. This book is a must read for anyone interested in Locationbased services.
⭐I recommend this book to anyone who is planning to deploy Wireless Location Based Tracking. Ajay has put together different technologies that are out there in the market that can be used to implement RTLS. For each technology, the author describes the technology and then provides the pros/cons of using that technology. He also provides many questions that you should be asking your technology vendors to achieve your ROI(return on investment). Thumbs Up!
⭐Two thumbs up for insight into RTLS Technologies. I liked when the author started the part III ‘these technologies are horses for the courses…’ and was the fascinated by the details of workings as well as pros and cons for many technologies that can be used for RTLS. There are so many vendors and so many technologies that the choice can be very confusing. This part is a must read for everyone. One chapter I also find very useful is the appendix on computing ROI – realizing the benefits of RTLS as I can certainly use some ideas. The author has provided a lot of real world examples through out the book, however, one thing I think is missing is a detailed case study or a chapter dedicated on a specific most common example from the industry.
⭐Ajay Malik has provided an excellent overview and case studies for RTLS deployments. After reading this book, you will be in the position to understand the key considerations in selecting and deploying a RTLS system. With so many different RTLS technologies available, it is important to select the best technology for the situation. This book from Ajay makes learning, purchasing and deploying a RTLS system much easier to understand.
⭐This book is just great! It gives you very comprehensive overview of RTLS used today, plus great tips on successful implementation of RTLS in your business. A must read material!
