Reviews from Amazon users which were colected at the time this book was published on the website:

⭐This is a nice resource book I got when my dog was a puppy, it’s very useful, especially for a first time puppy owner. It doesn’t focus much on breed, but it gives you expectations thought out the first year and how to potty train him, what his behavior means, a lot might be things you already know, some might be new. Nice and useful book, but I’d much rather get something that’s more breed focused.

⭐This book gives a good foundation of information to new puppy owners. It provided me with lots of basic information that helped with being a new parent. Some things in it contradicted other information I had read but I guess that happens with parenting. Take the information and make your own choices on what to do with it. It definitely helped me on my path to raising a happy and healthy puppy.

⭐I just got a puppy when I bought this book so needless to say I read quickly. A lot of great information. Only 11 weeks old and she’s got “sit” and “drop it” down and she’s about 80% potty trained!

⭐I’ve read a few of the for Dummies series and have to say that some of them have disappointed. But not this one! Puppies for Dummies is excellent, full of useful information, written in a warm inviting tone. We got a rescue dog from the Humane Society and the woman there who told me she has read hundreds of dog training books, recommended this one and I can see why. It’s comprehensive without being dry. I have felt that the dummies’ series padded some of the books, but this one doesn’t feel repetitive or padded at all. Each chapter was interesting and you can read it linearly or jump to the chapter/section that is relevant for you.

⭐Only buy this book if 1) You have NEVER seen a dog in your life, but might know that it has four paws and (maybe) a tail AND you have suddenly taken an interest in raising a show dog, OR if 2) You have the time to spend years looking for the perfect dog for you, and would never dream of taking in an animal because you don’t want to see it get put down just because no one has room for it. This book is written from the assumption that you have the luxury of searching for your perfect dog over a long period of time, and that any dog that ends up in your home will be perfectly suited to you and obey every command. I bought this book because I ended up with a very young puppy (less than 8 weeks) that had been dumped. I decided to keep it and raise it myself. But never having raised a puppy, I decided to get a little help from a book that seemed on the surface to know what it was talking about. The most often repeated bit of advice in this book? Never end up with a puppy that is less than 8 weeks old.I found this book utterly unhelpful and presumptuous. I have read several other For Dummies books, and have found them witty and insightful, but I have rarely in my life felt as talked-down-to as I did reading this book.Ultimately, I have decided to do the best I can with the advice of experts such as vets and training specialists, and to completely ignore this book altogether.

⭐But not always exactly accurate. Some of the things the author assumes dogs are ‘thinking’ did not ring true (at least not to me), either with my new puppy, or much of my past experiences with owning and spending time with dogs. I do not suggest you rely on this book alone. However I firmly believe that giving them lots of love and attention is the key, along with whatever amount of discipline you and your dog can handle. Different breeds behave and respond QUITE differently, and mixes are, of course, a mixed bag. Overall, this is an informative read, with LOTS of excellent hints and highlights throughout.

⭐Yeh I had a dog when I was a kid but my mom took care of it! so when we decided to get a new addition to our little family of 3 I picked this book out to help us, it helps too!! helps you pick out breed type good for your family, how to bring them home, what collars are idea to use for what personality type, even has a seciton called pets & kids which is where I am now. I have a toddler almost 3 and now a 9week old puppy and this book is helping me teach them both how to cope with one and other and how to have fun. Definitely would recomend this to new dog owners.

⭐I’m a first time dog owner and I honestly didn’t feel like I was better prepared for having read it. I felt like it skimmed over areas that I wanted more tips on – crate training for instance – and generally short on information for young puppies.

⭐As you can judge by the title, this book is written mainly for the American market, but the details on bringing a puppy into your life, the preparations you need to make, and the initial demands on your time, effort and energy, are all spelled out very well. If you have never shared your life with a dog, then this is a very helpful book to start you off, as it covers everything in great detail. If you have lived with a canine friend before, then this is a useful refresher course for life with a new puppy at home!

⭐A friend lent me this book and it is so good I ordered a copy of my ownIt arrived within 8 days, is in great condition and is really useful either as an ongoing read or to to dip in and out of to help with all aspects of a new puppy in the home.A good buy

⭐Another puppy training book for my baby springer to chew on. As usual, bits and pieces are useful, but every pup is different, so no one book has all the answers.

⭐Good tips given although I was expecting a little more advice on how to do things instead it just gives an overall view but I suppose with so many different breeds of dogs they may all have different training technics

⭐Everyday reading to learn about my puppy.
