    Description

Does just thinking about the laws of motion make your head spin? Does studying electricity short your circuits? Do the complexities of thermodynamics cool your enthusiasm? Thanks to this book, you don’t have to be Einstein to understand physics. As you read about Newton’s Laws, Kepler’s Laws, Hooke’s Law, Ohm’s Law, and others, you’ll appreciate the For Dummies law: The easier we make it, the faster people understand it and the more they enjoy it! Whether you’re taking a class, helping kids with homework, or trying to find out how the world works, this book helps you understand basic physics. It covers:Measurements, units, and significant figuresForces such as displacement, speed, and accelerationVectors and physics notationMotion, energy, and waves (sound, light, wave-particle)Solids, liquids, and gasesThermodynamicsElectromagnetismRelativityAtomic and nuclear structuresSteven Holzner, Ph.D. earned his B.S. at MIT and his Ph.D. at Cornell, where he taught Physics 101 and 102 for over 10 years. He livens things up with cool physics facts, real-world examples, and simple experiments that will heighten your enthusiasm for physics and science. The book ends with some out-of-this world physics that will set your mind in motion:The possibility of wormholes in spaceThe Big BangHow the gravitational pull of black holes is too strong for even light to escapeMay the Force be with you!

⭐This is a book that introduces the concepts that you will learn in a first-semester physics class, like the laws of motion, gravitation, conservation of energy, and the like. It does have some examples, and some problems that you can work out on your own, but it is mostly the kind of explanatory material that you get in the chapter reading. But, it distills all of the concepts so that they are generally more understandable than what you get from a textbook (and some teachers). It is definitely geared more toward high school physics or what in college is referred to as algebra-based physics. As most people who have taken calculus-based physics already know, calculus is mainly used to derive the equations, but you still mainly use algebra to solve the problems. So, what most teachers do is, in algebra-based physics classes they assign the “easier” versions of the problems and in calculus-based physics classes, they assign the harder problems. So, the kind of examples and the problems in this are definitely the easier versions, but it is a good primer even if you are going to be taking calculus-based physics because it will introduce you to the concepts, give you some experience with solving physics problems, and put you in a good position once you start class. And, for those who get this just because they want to learn something about physics, or refresh their knowledge of the subject, it is good for that too.

⭐The book was described as “very good” condition. However, all the pages are warped and wrinkled. This did not happen in transit; it arrived in a waterproof mailer. I consider this unsafe to read, not knowing what liquid damaged the pages. I am extremely disappointed. Can I get a replacement?

⭐This is a very neat and clear guide. It explains almost everything. It shows you the steps clearly, it repeats equations that were written before every time that it is needed. It doesn’t jump quickly into something new. It writes why to use these equations. Everything suddenly makes sense. What is missing from this book is practice. It would be nice to have something to solve for yourself and then check in the back if the solution is correct. However it gives good examples.

⭐I bought this book as an aid for the course that the author use to teach at Cornell — an autotutorial physics course. It is very helpful with extra examples and straight-forward explanations. It does not have problems in it, but I knew that and did not need them. It is also in the same order as the textbook for my class (College Physics), which makes it easy to follow along.

⭐Good book for beginners, but it is riddled with proofing errors that can slow you down. A good example is on page 113 where the answer 4.23 X 10 ^7 meters is shown as R^3 instead of R. Another at p.77 where the answer is shown as -135 degrees instead of 135 degrees. They should look at their Remember sidebar on same page!

⭐Added to Library with other books to help communicate ideas and thoughts to kids. Variety in communicating is a great way to see other angles to help kids figure out how things work.I Love Physics – Great Help for kids

⭐If you’re like me, then The Dummies series is how you learn stuff. But this will go a long way for those who are looking to go back to school, who are in school, or just want to learn physics.

⭐I like it. It really lays it out for you in ways that your professor might not. It is a great companion book to read concurrent with a 1st year Physics class.

    ⭐Great

    ⭐Good quality,fast delivery.

    ⭐thanks

⭐Very helpful and easy to follow

    ⭐Good quality and as described
