Description
This textbook presents in a unified manner the fundamentals of both continuous and discrete versions of the Fourier and Laplace transforms. These transforms play an important role in the analysis of all kinds of physical phenomena. As a link between the various applications of these transforms the authors use the theory of signals and systems, as well as the theory of ordinary and partial differential equations. The book is divided into four major parts: periodic functions and Fourier series, non-periodic functions and the Fourier integral, switched-on signals and the Laplace transform, and finally the discrete versions of these transforms, in particular the Discrete Fourier Transform together with its fast implementation, and the z-transform. This textbook is designed for self-study. It includes many worked examples, together with more than 120 exercises, and will be of great value to undergraduates and graduate students in applied mathematics, electrical engineering, physics and computer science.
User’s Reviews
Reviews from Amazon users which were colected at the time this book was published on the website:
⭐I got this book a couple years ago even though there were no reviews on it because it was the only book that covered both Fourier and Laplace transforms. The book is dissapointing. It is more like a collection of notes than a text book that flows, explains, or guides. There is almost no formatting; for example, the first time the analysis equation is shown, (the equation that pretty much IS Fourier analysis) they don’t even so much as put it in bold. It’s just like equation 2.332 tucked in the bottom of the page. Not even a comment on it’s importance, meaning or anything. I suppose all the material is in there, but I recommend not getting this book.
⭐I am not a math major, but in Electrical Engineering, Fourier and Laplace is a big deal. Studying this book helped me pass the hardest course I have taken. It is well written, and easy for non-math majors to follow.
⭐This is the only book among more than twenty that I’ve explored carefully which is both rigorous mathematically, complete, concise and turned toward applications (especially signals and systems). There is numerous examples and exercices carefully chosen which make the book very pedagogical. Ideal for self teaching.
⭐Very comprehensive and easy to read!

⭐Elegantly organized, very detailed and clear writing, easy to read; I use it for QM and Digital control courses, so much helpful, thanks.
