Description
This textbook for advanced courses in group theory focuses on finite groups, with emphasis on the idea of group actions. Early chapters summarize presupposed facts, identify important themes, and establish the notation used throughout the book. Subsequent chapters explore the normal and arithmetical structures of groups as well as applications. Topics include the normal structure of groups: subgroups; homomorphisms and quotients; series; direct products and the structure of finitely generated Abelian groups; and group action on groups. Additional subjects range from the arithmetical structure of groups to classical notions of transfer and splitting by means of group action arguments. More than 675 exercises, many accompanied by hints, illustrate and extend the material.

Reviews from Amazon users which were colected at the time this book was published on the website:
⭐This awesome Dover reprint of a Classic is written with the Third year undergrad in mind but suitable for advanced first year and curious high school student. A Must have for Math Majors…
⭐Majorly excellent modern treatment of groups with all important topix.would recommend this book highly- well written nice probs also!!!
⭐Might be slightly difficult for those not well versed in mathematics.
⭐Cost is low. Covers basic ideas
⭐For those who need mathematics in their lives
⭐I have much used this book whenever I wanted to find a theorem or its proof.
⭐This book is jam packed with exercises and examples sure to keep you interested. My copy is showing some wear and this book is good enough I’ll probably buy a crisp new copy. See the table of contents.
⭐I had some previous exposure to Group Theory, but then my thesis (in Computer Science) actually needed Group Theory, so I was forced to dig deeper and get some real understanding. This book was more than adequate, and the price was just unbeatable. If you actually need explicit algorithmic details (for implementation), check out “Fundamental Algorithms for Permutation Groups” from Greg Butler as well.
⭐Aunque tiene notaciones viejas y algunas poco prácticas, el contenido de ejercicios hacen que valga la pena, tanto en cantidad como en calidad. Muchos de ellos tienen hints para los que se atoran…
