Description

This outstanding guide supplies important mathematical tools for diverse engineering applications, offering engineers the basic concepts and terminology of modern global differential geometry. Suitable for independent study as well as a supplementary text for advanced undergraduate and graduate courses, this volume also constitutes a valuable reference for control, systems, aeronautical, electrical, and mechanical engineers. The treatment’s ideas are applied mainly as an introduction to the Lie theory of differential equations and to examine the role of Grassmannians in control systems analysis. Additional topics include the fundamental notions of manifolds, tangent spaces, vector fields, exterior algebra, and Lie algebras. An appendix reviews concepts related to vector calculus, including open and closed sets, compactness, continuity, and derivative.

User’s Reviews

Reviews from Amazon users which were colected at the time this book was published on the website:

⭐I’m a mid-stage Ph.D. student in electrical engineering (signal/information processing). If you’ve got a background with some real analysis (I think probably undergraduate level should suffice) and have experience with things like doing calculus on matricies most of the material is pretty accessible provided you can look things up on the internet. There are some errors in some equations, which is super annoying when you’re learning- if you don’t understand an equation, work it out yourself, and get a different answer, you’re probably correct. I’m trying to understand grassmanians and the geometry of manifolds as quickly as possible, and this book is helping me for sure.

⭐True Mathematicians™ may scoff, but I have found that it is the first book on this topic which is actually understandable and useful to me

⭐It is an introduce to differential geometry. It is very beginner book and easy to understand but you will not learn real differential geometry.

⭐The book is, in general, great!!! It has a lot of examples, and also it relates the results with control theory. Including some proofs, will improve the presentation.

⭐THIS VERSION IS FAULTY THE SYMBOLS DO NOT COME OUT RIGHTAMAZON ASKED DOVER PUBLICATIONS TO FIX THE PROBLEM. DOVER SENT A NEW VERSION BUT AMAZON STILL HAVE THE OLD VERSION ON THEIR SYSTEM AND WHEN YOU BUY THE BOOK YOU GET THE OLD FAULTY VERSION DELIVERED.I TOLD AMAZON AND I HOPE THEY PURGE THE OLD VERSION OUT OF THEIR SYSTEM
