Editorial Reviews: Review “If you’re interested in playing poker professionally, you will greatly benefit from the knowledge Tri has attained in his career.” — Poker Legend Barry Greenstein”This book is a must for any player looking to make their fortune playing online. Nguyen’s experience and wisdom in that realm is invaluable.” — PokerNews.com About the Author Highly successful online poker professional Tri ‘SlowHabit’ Nguyen turned his loves of poker and education into a notable coaching career, drawing praise for his ability to explain complex poker concepts in simple, easy to understand terms. These skills transitioned well into writing and he soon found himself teamed up with fellow online star Cole South — a collaboration that resulted in the high-level no limit Hold’em breakthrough, Let There be Range. Nguyen is also the author of The No Limit Holdem Workbook: Exploiting Regulars. Additionally, Nguyen has written extensively on Omaha and his The Pot-Limit Omaha Book: Transitioning from NLHE to PLO is frequently prescribed to Hold’em players looking to crush small- and mid-stakes PLO. The sequel, Advanced PLO Play, is for PLO specialists looking to increase their edge against other PLO regulars. A graduate in computer science and education from UC-Berkeley, Nguyen is a regular strategy column contributor to Card Player magazine and a prolific blogger at dailyvariance.com.
Reviews from Amazon users which were colected at the time this book was published on the website:
⭐This is not a “must have” poker book full of soul crushing secrets. It’s not an autobiography, either. So, what exactly is it, then? A third of it reads like Tommy Angelo’s Elements of Poker… out-of-context ethereal prose about such things as happiness, bitten by bad luck, and being hungry for victory, a third is good, solid advice on no limit cash games (albeit brief), the last third is fairly worthless (to me) filler about branding, buying ergonomic computer stuff, and creating passive income via poker. While Nguyen name drops players like Phil Ivey, Phil Galfond, and Cole South quite a bit, he never tells any personal stories about them nor gives us more insight into these NLHE legends than the barest essentials. In fact, elaboration on almost every level is needed. For instance, in the chapter I Play Solid, But I Can’t Win:”People usually say they play a good game and they are just running bad. But there are often small things they fail to acknowledge. Three notable examples are c-betting too much, neglecting the small pots, and passive pre-flop play. It’s hard to detect these problems because if you were aware of them, you probably would have fixed them already.”At this point, the author goes onto something else, leaving us to wonder at the various intricacies of less frequent continuation betting, small pot neglect, and passive play before the flop. A good 20% of the entire book could have elaborated on that paragraph alone. How I Made My First Million From Poker is a poetic reflection on one man’s poker career through a very dark glass. It will probably improve your game slightly more than reading Barry Greenstein’s Ace on the River. Which is to say that the book is enjoyable, but pretty darn far from “the nuts”… especially at this price tag.If Nguyen had included his Exploiting Regulars workbook in How I Made My First Million, then I’d have an easy time giving it 5 stars. I just finished both of them, and together they create a “super system” for beating no limit cash games. Alone, the reader is probably wishing he had a whole lot more.Awake!Venger As’Nas SatanisIpsissimusCult of Cthulhu
⭐It really doesn’t say you much about strategic aspects of poker, which is really cool. There are plenty of books about playing certain types of hands, certain boards etc. But this book was for me more about how to become a better poker player in relation to your life, friends, future etc.
⭐yup listen
⭐Simple to read, good practical advice, gives motivation and general understanding of winning poker.I love it and run to it again!
⭐Pretty nice book. Worth it.
⭐For any players aiming to become professinals or get better in managing their poker careers I think this is the book to by. The structure and topic’s are quite similar to Barry Greenstein’s Ace on the River, covering all important concepts how to manage your poker caree expect Tri’s book is suitable for online grinders. I’m sure many players are struggling to take the next step towards their goal at becoming professional yet they cannot use their motivation and energy the right way on their path to success. According to my personal experience and discussions I have had with professional players, it seems the most important things needed in poker in the long term are not necessarily how well you play the game technically but all the other things you have to do to manage your playing. Tri discusses these concepts in a helpful and insightful way. The reading experience is a bit like listening to storyteller who has a lot of experience and is willing to share his thoughts. The exercises in the end of each chapter are useful in asking the right questions from yourself, because answering them will clarify your picture of yourself as a professional player and help you focus on areas that you need to get better at. Advice given is also very practical and easy to understand compared to other books written on this topic (my experience is from books published by Dimat Enterprises). Also the content value/price ratio is more than excellent to any serious online player.
⭐When I initially purchased this book, I thought it was an autobiography. What the book contains are basically “life” lessons to becoming a serious (professional) poker player. What I enjoyed the most about the book is that it is interactive and has exercises in it for the reader to complete to learn the concepts Tri is trying to teach. Further, it really goes into the mental side of the game, because as you advance in levels, everybody becomes technically proficient, but it’s the players who become mental strong who really take their game to the next level.I have over 40 poker books and while this one is not the most technical (Tri does put out some pure poker theory books which are very good), I would say it is the most complete in terms of conquering the mental aspect of poker from a holistic approach.
⭐This book is not a strategy guide but it will teach you some of the most important aspects of becoming a professional poker player. The book is broken up into many small chapters each with a small nugget of information discussed. Tri covers a lot of topics that will contribute greatly to your success as a player but these topics aren’t always wrote about in depth or from someone with actual experience as a player. As such you get a real feeling that Tri has gone through almost all of the things he talks about in the book which gives it a lot of weight. There were also exercises at the end of most chapters where you are challenged to write down relevant notes to the chapter. This is definitely a nice idea and will help to solidify some of the concepts presented. My advice when reading would be to read maybe 1-2 chapters at a time and take a day to consider what Tri is saying and how it applies to you/your game. If you just plough through without thinking about the information then this book will be of little value to you.A few things I didn’t like, the title is definitely a get rich quick type of thing and is a bit off putting. Obviously this is no reflection on the quality of the book but it does make it seem a bit tacky. Also some of the examples that Tri uses are a bit extreme and maybe not to be taken too literally. I must’ve read him recommend skipping meals 3-4 times and that’s just not good advice. Finally, in the recommended reading and videos section Tri doesn’t miss an opportunity to plug his own products rather than take the chance to point his readers in the direction of more useful learning materials.Overall though a useful guide on all of the factors that contribute to playing poker from someone with first hand experience. 4 stars.
⭐Nao acabei de ler mas estou gostando bastante. Recomendo. Esse limite minimo de carcteres ao escrever aqui nao eh legal.
