⭐I wanted a book that would provide me a readable introduction to the world of particle physics. My days at university are a distant memory and I didn’t want to wade through reams of notes or a modern text book just so I could satisfy my mild interest in knowing a little more about the subject. The Charm of Strange Quarks was just what I needed. Not only did it provide me with the theory, but also stimulated my interest by giving some historical background. The theory is presented in a simple structured manner, but is also sufficiently challenging to keep me humble in any desire I may have to become an instant particle physicist.My only two minor irritations: Firstly I did not find the sequence of presenting the theory and the use of Appendices helpful. It made me feel that I was being shown one thing then before I got really familiar with it I would be whisked off to be shown something else and expected to put it all together myself. Secondly I would have liked a couple of new side bar type boxes to be included headed “… and in plain English!” and “This is what it means to you”. The side bars and boxes that are included are very interesting and helpful.I have no idea what a true particle physicist would think of the book, but for me it is exactly what I was looking for and will remain on my bookshelf for further exploration when I feel like taking my brain out for some exercise.

⭐When this book arrived I discovered that it was apparently a cheap reissue of the original. The text makes numerous mentions of color plates that are lacking in the version that I received. This should have been clearly noted in the product description and it was not. In addition, the overall quality of the paper, print, and black and white images is not good-especially for a rather small book that costs over $60. Once I discovered these flaws I returned the book.

⭐I took the sample and I was very happy- wasn’t that science just GREAT? Love it and I wish for more science books though. I Can not easily put it down. Very addictive and nice. I recommend this to scientists who study really well and everyone else who loves math. This book does a great job at it. Buy it now. I didnt though.

⭐The book that I have received does not contain the colored pages that the book back cover advertized and that the book text references at several places. Thus, my low rating!!!
