Description

Recent years have witnessed a resurgence in research and interest in the areas of quantum computation and entanglement. This book addresses the hidden worlds or variables of quantum physics. Author Gérard Gouesbet studied and worked with a former student of Louis de Broglie, a pioneer of quantum physics. His presentation emphasizes the history and philosophical foundations of physics, areas that will interest lay readers as well as professionals and advanced undergraduate and graduate students of quantum physics. The introduction is succeeded by chapters offering background on relevant concepts in classical and quantum mechanics, a brief history of causal theories, and examinations of the double solution, pilot wave, and other hidden-variables theories. Additional topics include proofs of possibility and impossibility, contextuality, non-locality, classification of hidden-variables theories, and stochastic quantum mechanics. The final section discusses how to gain a genuine understanding of quantum mechanics and presents a refutation of certain hidden-variable theories, including pilot wave.

User’s Reviews

Reviews from Amazon users which were colected at the time this book was published on the website:

⭐I am thankful that I happened across this work. It’s a rare treat to find something that thoroughly and fairly discusses hidden-variables theories (aka, Bohmian mechanics). The author spends a great deal of time refuting the more common objections to hidden variables, and in the event does a good job of it. (However, he himself ends up finding hidden variables unsatisfactory.)This book in no way skimps on mathematics, though the author makes it easy for the educated layperson or nonspecialist to skip the math without missing too much of the gist. The history of quantum mechanics is covered in detail. There are also many fairly deep journeys into philosophy. Reading can be a slog at times. But more often than not, I found the effort rewarding. That is to say, I learned something.

⭐Great book as a review on qm, bell theorem, and bohm’s pilot wave. Excellent style of writing (I dont know if it is originaly written in English or French). Very enjoyable read even as a ‘~~~~Pedestrian’. But one defect: Why is there no index??? The publisher or the author should insert an index in the next edition!!!

⭐Ein sehr schönes Buch von beeindruckender Gründlichkeit und Kompetenz.Das beste Buch über Interpretationen der Quantenmechanik das ich kenne.Unbedingt zu empfehlen.
