Description

An awe-inspiring, unforgettable journey of scientific exploration from Brian Cox and Jeff Forshaw, the international bestselling authors of Why Does E=MC2? and The Quantum Universe, with 55 black-&-white and 45 full-color pages featuring photographs, diagrams, maps, tables, and graphs. We dare to imagine a time before the Big Bang, when the entire universe was compressed into a space smaller than an atom. And now, as Brian Cox and Jeff Forshaw show, we can do more than imagine: we can understand.Universal takes us on an epic journey of scientific exploration. It reveals how we can all come to grips with some of the most fundamental questions about our Earth, Sun, and solar system–and the star-filled galaxies beyond. How big is our solar system? How quickly is space expanding? How big is the universe? What is it made of? Some of these questions can be answered on the basis of observations you can make in your own backyard. Other answers draw on the astonishing information now being gathered by teams of astronomers operating at the frontiers of the known universe. At the heart of all this lies the scientific method. Science reveals a deeper beauty and connects us to each other, to our world, and to our universe. Science reaches out into the unknown. As Universal demonstrates, if we dare to imagine, we can do the same.

User’s Reviews

Reviews from Amazon users which were colected at the time this book was published on the website:

⭐I love Brian Cox box and some of them I read multiple times since the subject is a little complicated

⭐Well written, informative and relatively easy to understand (though having some prior understanding will make it easier) and up to date.

⭐Easy reading and interesting topics.

⭐Great book easy to follow

⭐Was a gift. I was told it was a bit too technical, but well written.

⭐I paid 23 bucks for this book. It doesn’t have page numbers. For that price I expect page numbers, so I can coordinate with other members of book club who are readinng paper version.Cut&paste doesn’t even give me ‘location’ so I can find things I’ve commented on!Absurd for the price. Might as well have loaded bootleg PDF.

⭐Excellent book. Arrived on time

⭐This is a book that is technical but it is understandable mostly to me. HOWEVER parts of this book are not a easy read at all. I did struggle with parts of it. Because you get the actual science of how they gauge distance. Etc. that by no means is easy. Still most of the book is written so that that non scientists can enjoy it and learn something without being too technical. The authors provide good chapters here on how old things are that any layman can grasp etc. So check it out. You will learn something and you can skip any tech details if need be and still get a understanding of what they are showing you.

⭐Great for people who may doubt the validity of the scientific approach… but then those people might not want to deal with the frequent bits of maths that crop up. For someone who might relish the maths element and wants to know what underpins our knowledge of how the world works, it’s a treasure. Great book.

⭐One of the best accessible guides to modern astrophysics around!

⭐Another excellent book by a man who knows not only how to explain science simply to the everyday non-scientific person, but t9 make it fun, interesting, fascinating even! Thank God for Brian Cox, making science appealing and accessibly to all again.

⭐Gave this book as a gift, the recipient loves it

⭐Conheci Brian Cox em uma sinfonia da ciência. (Bom dia! Que Deus te abençoe meu maravilhoso irmão.) É nós mano
