⭐There’s some math in the book, but you can, like I did, skip it and still get the science and policy that Bernstein lays out in plain manner here. How nuclear bombs work is no secret, how they can be made is common enough knowledge. All that is needed is the skill, resources and desire to do it. Iran now has the first two, and it is the third we are negotiating about. I sure hope Barack Obama and john Kerry have read this book, because it should cure their demonstrated desire to reach a deal at almost any cost. As Bernstein points out and explains in ample enough detail, Israel has good reason to believe that if Iran has a bomb it will try to find a way to do what it says it will do— bomb Israel.No rational nation can take that chance.Only firm insistence that Iran back down or face ever increasing and painful sanctions will do this. Obama and Kerry have to know when to walk away from the table.Even though the book was about Iran, I would have liked a little about North Korea and how a nation modeled on an organized crime cabal could have and hold onto such weapons. I hope Bernstein does a book on that soon. We all could use some his light on that subject.

⭐The book is OK but repetitive compared to a more general book by the same author about plutonium. Currently, Iran seems to be focusing on separating plenty of U235 from the more common isotope U238, purportedly for peaceful purposes. Iran also has a reactor in principle capable of making plutonium but, apparently, they are not using that device to make a plutonium bomb.Three stars, recommended to readers who did NOT read the author’s book on plutonium.

⭐A nice review of the fundamentals of nuclear technology and how its state in Iran according to open sources. Possibly too technical for a reader with no scientific background.

⭐Once you read this book it would be hard for anyone to believe anything but Iran’s real intentions are to build nuclear weapons. It should be required reading for Obama and Congress

⭐rather than elucidating a complicated subject, the author’s prose style obfuscates it. Non-sequiturs abound, as do run-on sentences– overall, the text is slap-dash. The manuscript is in dire need of an editor with a sense of construction and organization.
