Reviews from Amazon users which were colected at the time this book was published on the website:
⭐As an absolute beginner with EXCEL, I hoped that this book would be great for me. I have found that this is a very difficult program to learn and that it takes many resources and a huge investment of time. Having abandoned EXCEL for Dummies early in my quest as too difficult, I have come back to it regularly to help understand some features. The big thing that I miss is a comprehensive index. It really needs an index/glossary to help the novices. You can’t start on page 1 and try to go through it. There are too many places where you need a fuller (or more basic) discussion of a point. Microsoft itself offers some good instruction, but it needs lots of supplementary support. As a visually disadvantaged senior, I found the Dummies book very hard to read. I took it to a library where there was a machine that magnified full pages. This is a big help, but since I have “senior attention deficit disorder”, I can only work on it for a half hour at a time and then the next time spend 15 minutes reviewing. In summary, EXCEL for Dummies is a good supplementary resource but not a great “how to” or reference book.
⭐Helped me understand some of the things in Excel, but had to read a lot to find specific things that I needed. Had to rely on a few friends to help me through some things that I couldn’t find in the book. It also had many things that were very basic and I didn’t need to know the very basic things about Excel. All in all a good start to learning Excel, but working with the program and trying different things was the best learning for me.
⭐These are very good books. Well designed with good organization and easy reference. Dummies could do worse.
⭐This book helps me navigate a program that I don’t use often and makes it much more useful. Dummies books cut through the ‘mumbo jumbo’ and help you get the job done.
⭐This book was delivered exactly like it should have been . The FBOP it was sent to somehow cannot manage to get it delivered to the inmate it was intended for. SO much for people improving themselves.
⭐The lessons are clear and in English rather than techno babbel. The illustrations are extremely helpful. The lesson organization is a little different from other books, but works.
⭐I bought this book given that I was a very long time user of Excel 2003. I never transited to Excel 2007, as many of my colleagues did. And, making the transition from Excel 2003 to Excel 2010 is a heck of a jump. The whole visual interface is pretty different and rather overwhelming. At first, the Excel 2003 user will feel lost within the Excel 2010 visual framework. The book is excellent in assisting one becoming familiar and ultimately adequately proficient in Excel 2010. The book is clear, well written, organized, and indexed. It serves as a good reference. I have no reservations, and strongly recommend this book.Yet, ultimately making this shift from Excel 2003 to Excel 2010 is very much a kinesthetic experiences as much as an abstract cognitive one. To use a metaphor, it is like studying a driving manual vs actually driving a car. They are two totally different learning experiences. The latter is more effective than the former. But, the former will nicely assist the latter. So, if you make this 2003 to 2010 jump the best way to learn the program quickly is to use it. Take some time to click on all the tabs, thumbnails, and icons you can. Study exactly what those things do, where those functions are located. I also use a list-system form of learning. This list is taped to the bottom of my computer and it includes about 25 actions and functions that are key to my everyday Excel work. And, the list details the exact tab path where those actions/functions are located. Each form of learning assists the other. It is a virtuous positive feedback loop. Between the book, the list, and actually playing around the program I am starting to regain my footing nicely within Excel in just a matter of days. If you use similar learning tools and have a similar foundation, your experience should be similar. If you have some additional good software learning tricks that I am not aware off, please share them within the Comment section of this review.
⭐I ordered Excel 2010 to learn how to make Bank spreadsheets. I cannot find anywheres in this book how to formula a way to have my balance continue to add or subtract amounts with each new entry. I can do it for one entry, but not for others.
⭐I have always liked these books and this is no exception. Within 20 minutes, most of the problems I was experiencing had been solved; and I am now dipping into the book to expand my knowledge and use of Excel as and when required. My only criticism is that the explanations are not as clear as in some ‘Dummies’ books I have had previously.
⭐As with all ‘Dummies’ books, this book was most helpful. It took me a little time to get used to the changes from the old Excel layout to the new layout with 2010 but the Dummies book assisted me both at work and at home. Can thoroughly recommend buying it. Delivery was in a good timely manner and arrived as expected. Would certainly use this supplier again.
⭐Very easy to read/understand. Will be useful Excel reference. Arrived on time, well packaged.
⭐This great program is bought to life with the aid of the book. Just take time to digest what it says and work the examples and things all start to make sense. I am no computer wiz but the stuff contained within has certainly stuck in my brain! Perfectly useable with Office 2013 as that is merely an upgrade of 2010.
⭐How did I survive without this book?! The ordering was super easy and the delivery was perfect.Easy to read, clear instructions and I love the 10 Excel commandments!I would recommend this to anyone who uses spreadsheets in their everyday life or a complete beginner.
