He started out training business users on how to use IBM personal computers and their attendant computer software in the rough and tumble days of DOS, WordStar, and Lotus 1-2-3 in the mid-80s of the last century. After working for a number of independent training firms, Greg went on to teach semester-long courses in spreadsheet and database management software at Golden Gate University in San Francisco. His love of teaching has translated into an equal love of writing. For Dummies books are, of course, his all-time favorites to write because they enable him to write to his favorite audience: the beginner. They also enable him to use humor (a key element to success in the training room) and, most delightful of all, to express an opinion or two about the subject matter at hand. Greg received his doctorate degree in Humanities in Philosophy and Religion with a concentration in Asian Studies and Comparative Religion last May. Everyone is glad that Greg was finally able to get out of school before he retired. Read more
Reviews from Amazon users which were colected at the time this book was published on the website:
⭐The 2007 version of Excel is all I need. I was surprised to find this book still available. Used but in very good condition. Total cost about $4. Then I saw a new copy at B&N for ~$20. Glad I got this one. Only 4 stars because Dummies books are not that explicit, but sufficient for my purposes. I was a dummy in Excel, but now reasonably competent for my simple requirements.
⭐I needed this for my old office system. I had never used a spreadsheet before. The Dummies books are usually complete and well editited. Howeve the completeness can be a drawback. They cover all of the aspects of an area at once which creats a serious load for the beginer. Seperating the the primary use parts from the details would be a help.
⭐I took an Excel class about 100 years ago, so this is a great book to have on hand to help me when I cannot remember how to do something. I do not use Excel much, so my mind kind of grows cobwebs in between uses, so I appreciate having this to fall back on. Like all of the dummies books, it is written in an easy-to-understand style. I am very happy.
⭐We have the old 2007 version of Excel, and wife wanted to learn more about its use, so this was perfect solution. Advertised as a used book, and it did have small blemish on the cover, but all-in-all it was in excellent condition.
⭐I love Excel. This is one of the few software that actually holds the test of time and keeps seeming to get better. But, getting better also means getting more complicated. This is what makes the “For Dummies” series so valuable. I can say that it would be nice if they added in interactive modules for download or created special forums for those of us who purchase this product to bounce ideas and questions around.
⭐I spent a few days futzing around with Excel and going through the functions and help files that were available without internet access. I accomplished some neat things. Then I got this book. I learned zero things from this book. When they say “Dummies”, they ain’t kidding.
⭐The product was shipped and delivered on time and was exactly as seller described. Unfortunately, I have an older version of Excel and thought I was ordering the right book. Not the sellers fault. I guess next time I order a book to help me with a computer problem, I will first look for a copy of a book that is titled “Figuring out which book I need for dummies’. Other then that the transaction went very well.
⭐Too “dumb” for me. Have many “Dummies” books. This one has too small print and figures for me to see. Laid in my Library ’til now. When I bought my Black Diamond head-lamp, thought my problem was solved. Uh-Uh. Still can’t define the figures in this book. Will probably give it away and leave excel to the “experts”. Would still recommend to the studious type that has good vision because I have found “Dummies” books very good and will get people “up and running” for whatever topic they need assistance.
⭐Does exactly what it says. Ideal for those of us who haven’t got a clue what we’re doing without dumbing it down too much. It is a thorough book, and I learned an awful lot by reading it. I had just upgraded my Office account, and even though I’m on a more up-to-date version of Excel, I was still able to use this book to help navigate my way around.
⭐I found the book very comprehesive and gave a lot of information, all realy a bit to much for me as i only wantedvery basic guidance to get me started on simple spread sheets.I got feed up trying to read the different sections and turned to You Tube to watch a couple of information clipson setting up spread sheets, brilliant.I now have turned back to the book, to fine tune and inhance my spread sheets. The two seem to work for me.
⭐Gave everything that I wanted. Easy to follow
⭐great condition for 1p, shame i ordered the wrong one, i actually needed Access!!!!!
⭐Purchased as reference book for as yet undeveloped computer skills but still within reach of the desk top shelves just in case the urge to make a what if analysis reoccurs.
