⭐This is definitely not a “Reader’s Guide.” It’s a university textbook, and a very challenging one at that. If you are already familiar with the field of literary theory and somewhat tolerant of dense academic prose, and you want to deepen your knowledge of specific theories, you might find the discussions of individual theorists and especially the lists of significant works helpful. If you are new to the field and are looking for an accessible introduction, you will have a really bad time with this book. The explanations of theories are often rather confusing, sometimes redundant, and the heavy Academese does not exactly help. In my opinion, it’s not worth the money. There are definitely better books on literary theory out there; if you absolutely have to read this one, first check whether you have access to the free online/PDF version on the Taylor & Francis Group website (e.g., through your university library).

⭐Ich habe das Buch für die Uni gebraucht. Es ist sehr kompakt geschrieben, ohne Seminar würde ich bestimmt die Hälfte der Theorien nicht verstehen. Aber ergänzend zum Seminar ist es eine sehr gute Einführung. Es ist auch sehr angenehm geschrieben für ein Buch über Literaturtheorie.
