Reviews from Amazon users which were colected at the time this book was published on the website:
⭐This book gave a very good overview of all aspects of COPD. My only concern is there were a few points that seemed questionable. First, and foremost, the book states in two places that the average life expectancy after a COPD diagnosis is just 5 years. I am not seeing that number anywhere else other than in this book. Many people seem to live quite a bit longer with COPD, and they had no source given for that number. I think perhaps what they meant was that it could take 5 years off your total life expectancy, but that is a very big difference.I suggest fact checking with some other credible sources on what you read here.
⭐If you have COPD as I have had for the last 20 years, this book is what you need. It would take a doctorweeks to answer these many questions. It is in simple and plain language. I have marked a lot of the pages that apply to me and my problems. Worth the money I spent.
⭐trying to stay informed as I’m not real thrilled with my doctor–bought this book used–quick delivery and cheap–there is underlining in the book by another original owner I assume–doesn’t effect the reading.
⭐Clear concise information in layman’s language. I first heard of this book from a COPD website where it was highly recommended. I am so glad I bought it. It offers invaluable advice on handling what can be a deadly disorder without the fear tactics! Plus it’s easy reading!!
⭐This is a good, basic introduction to COPD, emphysema and chronic bronchitis. The chapters on the disease progression and the physical changes in the breathing apparatus are well illustrated and described, as are the chapters on medications. There is a good emphasis on life-style changes necessary to improve quality of life for COPDers. The only mistake I found was a common one: the author states in the chapter on exercise that if you’re not able to talk and walk at the same time, you’re going too hard and fast. That’s simply not true for people with COPD,with the possible exception of those in the mild or very beginning stages of the disease. My lung function is about a third that of someone my age without lung disease and I know if I can walk and talk (much) I’m not working hard enough to keep my lungs in the very best shape they can be. The outing may be socially rewarding, but I’m not getting much benefit from it as exercise and if that’s all I did, I would not gain functional benefit at all. The reason to exercise in the first place is so that we can enjoy a stroll through the mall with our friends or a day at the zoo with our grandchildren. Other than that, the book is a good introduction to COPD using the “small bites” approach that is the trademark of the “Dummies” books. I would recommend it for patients, caregivers and family members.
⭐Both of my parents have COPD but are at very different stages of the disease. This book has been a huge resource for both of them to browse through as a way to become more informed about their condition. Good tips, accurate and easy to understand. I believe this book will serve them well for many years to come.
⭐Parts of this book at not easy to understand. Either that or I am really dumb. I have COPD and have learned a lot from the Doctors and the nurses that have taken care of me when I have been in the hospital. This book can get very technical.
⭐After being diagnosed, I was scared and didn’t really hear what the doctor said. This book simplifies what I need to know and what to do
⭐an American publication but nevertheless lots of sound advice which is common sense.
⭐Very comprehensive, informative book with everything you need to know and understand about COPD.
⭐Excellent book lots of information quick delivery I would recommend it
⭐Very informative. Obviously, as with all Dummies books, aimed at the North American market, but the basic information and advice remain the same no matter where in the world you are.
⭐Very helpful
