⭐Martin Litchfield West is the academic version of Aldous Leonard Huxley, and vice versa. Everything both authors have written are priceless.

⭐I would have preferred not to give it a rating because it is over my head, not being a scholar but merely having an interest in the subject matter. If there were errors, I would not be able to detect them. The book presumes some understanding of ancient Greek and Latin. You will note that the price is quite high, as I believe they are on all his books, presumably because there is no outcry for a book like this. Frankly, now – and this is no fault of the author – the internet is far more valuable tool to anyone interested in the subject, probably including the serious student, but particularly the lay person. West, who died roughly a month before I wrote this, is no doubt one of the great classical scholars of the twentieth century and I look forward to reading some of his other works – obtaining them from a library – as I simply can’t justify paying such high prices for them. This book is really written for advanced students or novice scholars, and not for the lay person or even someone like myself who has a greater interest than most. However, I did learn some things by reading it, and will now return it to the library where I expect it will long languish on the shelves.
