⭐West’s The Making of the Odyssey is by far the best book ever written about how one of our greatest literary masterpieces was composed. It is fascinating, meticulous, eye-opening, jaw-dropping, and joy to study (one can’t simply read it). No scholar I know of has Professor West’s combination of erudition, judiciousness, literary taste, a discernment that is almost always impeccable, and a mind free of scholarly dogmas. This book should be required reading for all serious students of the Odyssey in Greek.

⭐This is an awful mishmash edition, looks a little like a PDF savagely converted, beware! I don’t understand, because it looked ok when I looked inside.
