Description

A variety of biological and social science data come in the form of cross-classified tables of counts, commonly referred to as contingency tables. Until recent years the statistical and computational techniques available for the analysis of cross-classified data were quite limited. This book presents some of the recent work on the statistical analysis of cross-classified data using longlinear models, especially in the multidimensional situation.

User’s Reviews

Editorial Reviews: Review From the reviews of the second edition:”This is a great book on the analysis of cross-classified categorical data, particularly for non-statistical readers. The need for analyzing cross-classified categorical data has been growing rapidly … . The loglinear models and maximum-likelihood estimates discussed in this book are very helpful for practitioners to get hands on categorical data and perform sound analyses. This book is comprised of 8 chapters. … is a useful book and I recommend it to data analysts in practical and academic fields.” (Zhen Mei, Zentralblatt MATH, Vol. 1134 (12), 2008)”This Springer edition is a reprint of the first edition published by MIT Press in 1977. … this a useful resource book for applied statisticians with good theoretical background.” (Technometrics, Vol. 50 (4), November, 2008) From the Back Cover to follow

⭐just needed for school. it is ok. just needed for school. it is ok. just needed for school. it is ok. just needed for school. it is ok. just needed for school. it is ok.

⭐I haven’t used this book yet much, though I’m confident it’s a 5-star book, because it’s still popular 36 years after it was written (and that’s the current edition!), and because of the recommendation of my professor. This review is focused on the difference between versions that are called 2nd edition (anything dated 1977 or later) – there are none. I ordered this book used, because I’m a PhD student on a tight budget. I was really nervous about getting a really old version, because I wasn’t 100% sure the content would be the same (I worried that perhaps the 2nd edition of the paperback was different than the 2nd edition of the hardcover from 30 years ago). However, it was worth the risk to me – my expected value is higher in ordering an almost free old book, if there’s any decent chance the content is the same – and it is! I was able to find some PDF excerpts of the latest version elsewhere (it’s sold as an e-book on a few other sites), and everything down to the page number and formatting is identical. So, for a few bucks including shipping, I got a book that otherwise cost substantially more. So, if you’re on a budget and thinking about buying that super cheap version from 30 years ago, feel safe in doing so (assuming reliable seller, of course). I’m sorry I can’t review the content yet, but I hope this review will help some other poor PhD students!
