User’s Reviews

Reviews from Amazon users which were colected at the time this book was published on the website:

⭐Yeah, he can be something of a jerk. But if the journalist’s first rule is to get the facts right, and the second is not to be dull, he gets pretty good marks for both.

⭐Anyone who wants an autobiographical account of Hemingway’s adventures from the Spanish Civil War, storming the beach on D-Day, his very first Spanish Bull Fight, Safari in Africa and subsequent airplane crashes, Marlin fishing between Key West and Havana, and more….a personal glimpse into the adventurous life of the great American writer, icon, and adventurer. A man’s man with all the associated bad habits and inclinations which should be forgiven nevertheless considering the times during which he lived and wrote. In all his books and stories He wrote about things he knew and lived. These Journalistic ‘Dispatches’ of events show the reader just how true and honest were his writings. A real gem!

⭐Hemingway’s work here is very valuable but the book has a small typeface and it is printed in grey rather than black, so it is awkward to read unless your eyes are perfect. Also the book is heavier than I think it needs to be. Among Hemingway’s best work his short stories stand out most, and these articles are worth having along with them. My favourites are about skiing in Switzerland and also Christmas in Europe. The writing should have five stars.

⭐I got the small, pocket book version which was a mistake. Get the hardback edition if you can find it. So much great stuff in this book. You can see how EH worked hard to capture what he saw and edit down to pithy news copy. Good training for his novels. I particularly liked his stuff on the taking of Paris.Sit back and enjoy this book!

⭐As a Hemingway devotee, I enjoy everything written about him – and by him! This was a new experience for me; reading his newspaper articles! Enjoyedthem all and gave me another “piece of the puzzle” about this fascinating yettroubled person….

⭐Hemingway’s journalistic writings provided instruction for living purposefully, and appreciating what you do and what you find around you. Many of his journalistic pieces from the 20’s to the 50’s have truths that hold today.

⭐First hand historical account through a great writer’s doors of perception -not a scholarly research product but a witness’ report-great for time traveling with the reporter

⭐It’s wonderful to read such well-written ‘prose’ that has such vivid descriptions of the past. It brings the time back to life and will stand for years to educate future generations.

⭐Needed to read this for background. Not wildly interesting as a general read but served its purpose. Good price

⭐I had this beautiful volume about 30 years ago I believe in Penguin paperback form, I could not believe I had mislaid it and I am elated to finally get the hardback version. The book contains some of his best writing as a columnist and contains the seeds of many of his best short stories.

⭐I really like it. It is a collection, starting with newspaper and magazine articles written by the young Ernest Hemingway in 1920 to the more mature Hemingway of 1956. The articles are short and can be read over time. They are useful articles for anyone from students to travellers of any age.

⭐If you are a Hemmingway fan – This just can not be missed. it is so interesting , you will read so many articles beautifully written. you will recognise so much that he put into his novels and other works

⭐Interesting to read these journalistic articles from Hemingway
