⭐This book is one in a collection of books about the Renaissance. The text and reproductions are beautiful.

⭐Bruce T. Moran is an excellent Germanist as well as a recognized authority on early modern alchemy. This book is intended for the non-specialist but a delight to those who know the writings of Paracelsus in translation, or even in the original Early New High German. Professor Moran takes as his starting point Paracelsus’s “Seven Defenses” (“Sieben Defensiones”) and organizes a chapter around each one. While telling the story of Paracelsus, and relating some of the legends associated with him, Moran explains a great deal about the transformation of medical thinking from ancient and medieval times through those of Paracelsus and anticipating modern concerns with epidemics.
