⭐If you are looking for a background in descriptive complexity, go no further. This text provides a broad set of background material needed to understand it, and the author is truly one of the leaders in the field.
⭐An excellent introduction to Descriptive Complexity. This book outlines the main results in a straightforward manner.I had a couple problems with the way some material was presented, however. For instance, vocabularies are granted relations, constants, and functions, but functions are never used in vocabularies. Motivations are pushed into asides for why we want to do it this way. I definitely had this beef a lot more with the first two chapters than the remainder, but it made slow going to start with, which was a bit demotivating.Overall, very good, and an excellent reference. Pedagogy could use improvement, though.
⭐This is a great book. The presentation is very well balanced.
