Tracy (Boulder, Colorado) is Professor of Accounting, Emeritus, at the University of Colorado in Boulder. Before his 35-year tenure at Boulder, he was on the business faculty for four years at the University of California in Berkeley. Early in his career he was a staff accountant with Ernst & Young. John is the author of several books on accounting and finance, including The Fast Forward MBA in Finance, How To Read a Financial Report, and Small Business Financial Management Kit For Dummies with his son Tage Tracy. John received his BSC degree from Creighton University. He earned his MBA and PhD degrees at the University of Wisconsin in Madison. He is a CPA (inactive) in Colorado.

⭐This is a very comprehensive book for beginers who want to understand financial reports and other accounting aspects related to a business. The author has written it very well without too much technical details but just enough for a new comer to understand the basics. After reading this book many financial/accounting terms will sound familiar when you read articles in business magazines and newspapers. If you are a new manager like me and want to learn the basics of accounting this book is a good buy.

⭐I’m not an accountant, so I really cannot rate the overall content of the book. To me it seems to be pretty good, and the reading is managable and easy to comprehend. The BIG problem with this book is the digital editing. I am reading it on a PC app and the right side of all the figures listed in the book are cut off, making them mostly useless. Figure 1-3 about the statement of cash flow was the worst because all the numbers were removed from the figure. The numbers that were supposed to be there, were listed in the discussion of the table. To get the whole picture of the table and finally understand it, I had to copy the text on a sheet of paper and then fill-in the numbers. MADDENING. I also tried to adjust font size and number of words per line, but to no avail. THE PUBLISHER AND/OR AMAZON NEEDS TO FIX THIS GLITCH.

⭐This book is a great tool for those who get scared when they hear the word “Accounting”. It has a great way of explaining what is needed in order to set up your business correctly, in a down to earth way. I found the terminology is easy to understand. It is great for just learning the process or to use as a reference. It is a great tool to have for those moments when the mind goes blank when an accounting procedure needs to be done.

⭐This series of books are fantastic. They really do make complex subjects seem easier “for dummies”. If your a dummy and want to understand what accounting is this is the book for you. I also recommend this series for any other topics you have trouble understanding.

⭐I miss this book, but it helped with my Accounting class.

⭐This book is well-written, and covers the topics I had hoped it would. It has helped me get an understanding about the basics of accounting. As a small business owner I don’t need all the technical stuff… and this was geared to my level. I’m glad I bought it. I’m actually going to read it again just to cement some of the ideas into my thinking.

⭐I suppose to first understand the book you need to know something of accounting. I apparently do not “get it”…better I should stay a mechanical type of person.

⭐Bought this book to gain basic knowledge of terminology as I am in Finance Sales role. Not very useful for this, too wordy and a lot about theory rather than just knowledge of terminology.
