In response to the growing interest in the field, this new edition of A Companion to Contemporary Political Philosophy has been extended significantly to include 55 chapters written by some of today’s most distinguished scholars. Straddling analytic and continental philosophy, the first part of the companion considers the contributions of economics, history, law, political science, international relations and sociology, to normative political thought. The collection then provides analyses of eight live political ideologies, including new chapters on Cosmopolitanism and Fundamentalism, and detailed discussions of key concepts, with much expanded coverage of international politics and global justice. An essential references for anyone interested in this dynamic field, the new edition of A Companion to Contemporary Political Philosophy is the most current and comprehensive resource available. Reviews from Amazon users which were colected at the time this book was published on the website:
⭐“A companion is not a dictionary or an encyclopedia or a literature review. Unlike a dictionary, it is not primarily intended to provide an explication or a history of technical concepts; it is meant to offer substantive commentary on the works pursued in the relevant field of study. Unlike an encyclopedia, it is not committed to the systematic perspective of the office record; it is deigned to be a practical guide for someone who wants to find their way through the relevant field. Unlike a literature review, it is not directed only at professionals in the area; it is also written with a view to those who come fresh and unseasoned to the topics discussed”Quoted from the Introduction chapter of this book.
⭐Excellent, top-notch seller! Going to purchase more books when I need them. Product was exactly as described, price was very reasonable, and I received the package earlier than expected!
⭐this book is very good. I bought the audioversion of this companion also. It’s great!I strongly suggest that Leo Strauss’s history of political philosophy be made into audioversion!
⭐This is a very good, but flawed book. Most key topics in contemporary political philosophy are covered, albeit from an almost wholly analytic standpoint. However, there are some puzzling omissions. One of the most faults of the Goodin/ Pettit book is its strong secularist bias. Theism is not simply ignored, it is denigrated, As Professor Elshtain pointed out in her review, the authors seem unaware of the persistent importance of faith in political life and thought.
